RecipeTin Eats Star Nagi Maehashi Votes with Aussie Democracy Sausage Amid Recipe Plagiarism Drama

Nagi Maehashi has submitted her choice for the 2025 Federal Election, a decision not made merely out of respect for democratic principles.

In the heat of a plagiarism dispute with ex-travel blogger-turned-baker Brooke Bellamy, RecipeTin Eats celebrity decided to pause from the internet uproar and cast a vote on the weekend instead.

She also excitedly encouraged other Australians to participate in voting by posting on Instagram a photo of her enjoying a tasty “democracy sausage.

She wrote, “Australia knows the way to encourage voting,” accompanying a photo where she was seen biting into a sausage adorned with onions, mustard, and tomato sauce, while also sporting an ‘I voted’ sticker in the image.

After the cookbook author and blogger firmly addressed the issue with ‘trolls’, who were harassing fellow chef Bellamy during the plagiarism dispute, they chose to take action.

Maehashi ignited a heated debate when she claimed that ex-travel blogger-turned-baker Bellamy had plagiarized two of her caramel slice and baklava recipes from her cookbook titled “Bake with Brooki.

On a surprising twist on Thursday, Maehashi shared a video on Instagram appealing to her followers and well-wishers to give Bellamy some space.

‘Please stop the trolling,’ the Australian cook said in the clip.

After the online baking sensation, Bellamy, faced a heated response due to allegations of plagiarism, she secured her social media platforms.

Following the sensational revelations, more chefs and writers are speaking up with comparable accusations.

American baker Sally McKenney, well-known as Sally’s Baking Addiction, shared on Instagram that Bellamy seemed to have duplicated her vanilla cake recipe, following a heads-up from Maehashi.

McKenney stated, “Those who meticulously create and refine recipes, as well as test them, deserve recognition, particularly when their efforts result in a popular cookbook.

Mother-of-one Bellamy dismissed the assertion, sharing on Instagram that her cookbook “Bake with Brooki” consists of recipes developed “over a long period of time.

She’s refuted claims of plagiarism and emphasized that she’s been sharing her homemade caramel slice recipe since 2016, even posting an old photo of one she prepared back then.

Bellamy recently retreated to her $3.6 million three-bedroom residence in Brisbane and made an appeal for solitude, following the inundation of harsh criticisms on her personal Instagram due to the influx of trolls. She has since made her account private.

‘The past 24 hours have been extremely overwhelming,’ she said in a statement.

She mentioned that there have been instances where media appeared both at her home and workplace, leading to harsh criticism online. This experience has been incredibly troubling not only for her professional team but also for her young family.
