At the Reading Festival on Friday, fans were delighted when comedian Rebel Wilson unexpectedly teamed up with The Kooks to perform a version of “Gangsta’s Paradise.
At the stage, the 45-year-old Australian actress was warmly greeted by lead singer Luke Pritchard, causing the audience to erupt in excitement.
In my enthusiasm, I’d love to share some exciting news: “I’m thrilled to inform you that we’re planning to capture a scene for our movie with you. So, let’s give a grand welcome to the extraordinary, the seemingly unattainable, the incredibly successful, renowned, stunning popstar – Tazzie Young, also recognized as Rebel Wilson! She’s about to grace our stage!
The rebel called out: “Hey everyone! Since I’m already here, I figured it might be fun to perform an old Kooks tune. As for me, I’ve got ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ on my mind. What do you think?
The band looked at each other in confusion, before kicking of the 1995 Coolio hit.
Speaking about how the moment came together, Luke explained: ‘We’re huge fans of Rebel.’

He went on to say, “She reached out expressing interest in attending our performance. Instantly, I extended an invitation for her to perform with us on stage.
In our conversation with her, we anticipated that she’d choose one of our songs. However, to our surprise, she revealed that she knows all the lyrics to just one song – ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, which ended up being her selection.
In just a few months after their formation in 2004, the energetic band known as The Kooks secured a significant recording contract, hailing all the way from Brighton.
As a devoted admirer, I’d proudly say that under the guidance of our charismatic frontman Luke, the release of our debut album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006 catapulted us into the limelight. The album earned an impressive triple platinum status and subsequently garnered hundreds of millions of plays across various streaming platforms.
This year, they unveiled their seventh album titled “Never/Know,” a lively record that infused their distinctly British humor with sunny melodies. It’s been crafted as an optimistic soundtrack to uplift listeners amidst challenging times.
Luke shared with Daily Mail: “I penned it at home amidst the chaos of my children playing. After descending from heaven, experiencing hell, and returning with Hugh and the group, we’ve traversed quite an extraordinary journey.
This music is quite reminiscent of shoegaze within the indie genre, a style I appreciate, yet it carries an overcast atmosphere. It seems we’re constantly fed the idea that everything is dismal.
Manifesting pure passion, it poured forth unbidden – a magical burst, I can’t guarantee its recurrence, but oh, what a thrill! A whirlwind creative spree, unfolding over five exhilarating days, yielding ten enchanting melodies.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I wholeheartedly believe that music plays a significant role in our lives. In trying times, I’ve found that people tend to turn towards artistic pursuits, such as music, more frequently. This is because it offers a glimmer of hope, a reminder that there’s beauty and resilience even amidst adversity.
The festival will be hosted yet again at Richfield Avenue in Reading, while its counterpart in Leeds will occur at Bramham Park.
This year, it has been announced that the musician responsible for Good Luck Babe, Chappell Roan, will be one of the main acts at the festival, joining forces with American rapper Travis Scott.
I can hardly contain my excitement as an ardent fan! It’s been confirmed that the captivating Irish singer-songwriter, Hozier, is joining the festival lineup. The buzz surrounding his hit single “Too Sweet” has been absolutely electrifying this summer!
Additionally, they included an impressive roster of 30 new acts, promising an even grander event compared to past years, alongside the already popular choices.
The line-up now includes Limp Bizkit, who will be taking to the main stage.
Their set will lead into a headline slot from Sheffield metal giants Bring Me The Horizon.
Additionally, D-Block Europe, Example, Jazzy, Nell Mescal, Good Neighbors, Nemzzz, and numerous others have been added to the roster as well.
