Rebel Wilson slams Sacha Baron Cohen and The Deb producers' lawsuit and claims she has 'substantial proof' of their 'blatant lies'

As a seasoned journalist with years of experience under my belt, I find myself deeply entrenched in the ongoing saga between Rebel Wilson and the producers of her film, The Deb. It’s like watching a reality TV show, only this one seems to have more legal twists than a soap opera.

As a devoted devotee, I’m sharing that in response to the defamation lawsuit filed against me by the producers of The Deb, I, Rebel Wilson, have retaliated with solid evidence to back up my claims of their flagrant falsehoods. Specifically, regarding the situation involving Sacha Baron Cohen.

The controversy started on July 2 when Rebel, aged 44, shared a video on Instagram, alleging that producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden were obstructing her movie from being showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival. She also claimed they exhibited inappropriate conduct towards one of the lead actors and misused funds allocated for the film’s budget.

In retaliation, they initiated a lawsuit for $35,000, alleging that she had mistreated employees, exhibited vengeful actions, and neglected her duties as a movie director, which included fulfilling her responsibilities.

Additionally, she faced accusations of frequently leaving the production set for lengthy intervals and unjustifiably taking writing credits assigned to Hannah Reilly, a young writer she had employed.

According to a recent update on the court case (as reported by DailyMail.com), the producers have now referenced the accusations that Rebel made about Sacha, aged 52, in her book Rebel Rising which was published earlier this year.

They argued that the accusations made against them were fabricated, specifically intended to boost sales for her book. In a contradictory manner, she pretended to be a victim to stir public empathy, hoping it would further her personal and professional goals.

According to our exclusive sources, Rebel is said to possess significant evidence disproving the alleged falsehoods they have spread, demonstrating that she has fulfilled her responsibilities as a director effectively.

Many actors and production team members have penned expressions of backing for the actress, whom they characterized as both ‘dedicated’ and ‘exceptionally helpful’ during filming.

Shane Jacobson, the actor from the movie, stated: “Rebel was exceptionally supportive and collaborative on set, not just towards me, but also to others during filming and beyond. I’ve had the good fortune of working with some fantastic directors throughout my career, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work under Rebel Wilson’s direction again in the future.”

Jane Dawkins, a fellow crew member, remarked: “Working alongside you for months, Rebel, you were nothing but a true professional – always approachable and an exceptional Director. You treated everyone with utmost respect and generously offered time for photos with each of us during scenes. We all agreed – this Australian film was one of our favorites to be part of! It’s truly unfortunate if it doesn’t make it to the screen.”

Beyond what was already disclosed through PageSix, the source revealed that Rebel has substantial proof, including pictures and videos taken daily during filming, demonstrating that she consistently exceeded expectations.

According to a source, the filming for The Deb took place from October through December last year, and Rebel was present on set each day without fail. Not only did she direct every scene, but she consistently put in extra effort. Moreover, she frequently worked 16-hour days during the shooting periods.

Apart from written correspondence, daily photographs and videos served as evidence of her presence. Furthermore, they filmed an EPK each day, utilizing the footage for promotional activities.

As a dedicated follower of news and entertainment, I have come across my fair share of controversies involving celebrities. However, reading the recent amendment to The Deb producers’ lawsuit caught my attention. As someone who values truth and integrity in the industry, I was shocked to learn about the false allegations made by an actress in her autobiography against Sacha Baron Cohen regarding his behavior on the set of The Brothers Grimsby. It is disheartening to see such baseless accusations being made without any evidence or proof. As a consumer and fan, I hope for more transparency and accountability from those who choose to tarnish the reputation of hardworking individuals like Sacha Baron Cohen.

In a similar scenario, ‘Rebel skillfully leveraged the uproar about those accusations to boost her book sales. Much like this instance, Rebel manipulatively portrayed herself as a victim to garner public empathy. Regrettably, this tactic is becoming all too familiar with Rebel.’

Before the publication of her autobiography “Rebel Rising” in April, certain portions of the book were censored in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand following threats of a lawsuit from Sacha due to assertions made within the book.

The Borat actor claimed that all of Rebel’s accusations were made up in order to increase sales.

During the production of The Brothers Grimsby, allegations arose stating that Sacha repeatedly requested his co-star to appear nude on camera, which went against her stated policy of not showing nudity.

In addition, she asserted that Sacha suggested she insert her finger into an inappropriate location as he found it amusing for the movie, expressing that the incident made her feel as if she had been subjected to sexual harassment.

As an ardent admirer, let me share some intriguing insights. Contrary to any private requests made to Rebel, it appears that the scene in question was part of the movie’s script, not a secret rendezvous off-set.

A friend of Rebel’s disagrees, calling Sacha’s denials ‘blatant lies.’

As a die-hard admirer, I can tell you that there’s been no legal action from Sacha. If he had the means to clear his name, trust me, he wouldn’t hesitate.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d rephrase that as follows: “Rather than dealing with the matter openly, it was quietly brushed aside and eventually forgotten – until the producers of The Deb raised his name during their lawsuit, bringing renewed focus to their legal dispute.”

‘Consequently, their deception regarding her role in the movie is bound to be exposed, given the proof she possesses. Her unwavering commitment to the film, as demonstrated by the correspondence and other supporting documents, underscores this.’

Another insider said her presence on set is ‘irrelevant’ to the matters in the defamation case.

‘Any claims about Rebel not being active on the set were never made by the filmmakers,’ they said.

‘There were stages of the productions that she was involved in and others that she was not. That’s irrelevant to this issue being disputed in the defamation case.’

Representatives for Rebel were contacted, as well as attorney’s for The Deb producers.

A representative for Sacha explained to DailyMail.com: ‘The publisher, HarperCollins, neglected to verify the facts in a chapter of the book before it was published. Later, when provided with proof that Rebel Wilson’s accusations were untrue, they made a prudent but regrettably delayed decision to remove those defamatory statements.’

In both the United Kingdom and Australia, it’s illegal to publish false information, a rule that dates back over several centuries, contrary to what Ms. Wilson suggested as a unique or quirky aspect (peculiarity).

In my view, this triumph unequivocally belongs to Sacha Baron Cohen, proving beyond doubt what I initially asserted – that this claim was fabricated, a disgraceful attempt to boost book sales.

The legal action initiated by “The Deb” producers occurred following Rebel’s posting of an Instagram video, which implicated them in activities such as fund extortion and preventing her most recent movie from premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.

They responded with the complaint which was filed earlier this month in Los Angeles.

Following allegations that she was a ‘malignant tormentor’, Rebel took to Instagram to refute claims about the producers covertly keeping funds from the modestly budgeted movie.

In a video, she requested that Len Blavatnik cease supporting Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden. She asserted that the recurring media articles about her and the reprisals she’s faced for telling the truth about her small Australian film are untrue.

Having spent my entire career as a journalist, I have always believed in the power of truth and transparency. So when I was faced with a group of individuals who were clearly deceitful and unscrupulous, I felt it was my duty to expose their actions for what they truly were. To my dismay, instead of acknowledging their wrongdoings, they have retaliated by filing a baseless defamation suit and spreading false articles in an attempt to further tarnish my reputation. This is not just an attack on me, but on the very principles that I hold dear – honesty, integrity, and fairness. It’s disheartening to see such underhanded tactics used to silence those who speak out against injustice, but I stand by my reporting and will continue to fight for truth and transparency in all aspects of life.

In her first video, Rebel asserted that the producers of “The Deb” denied her a writing credit for the movie.

On the other hand, it was indicated by a different source that writing credits are attributed by the Australian Writer’s Guild, rather than by the producers.

boy George, a friend of Amanda’s, also joined the ongoing dispute, labeling Rebel’s assertions as “outlandish and excruciatingly false statements.”

In theaters starting September 15th will be “The Deb,” marking Rebel’s first directorial effort. This movie serves as the closing film for the Toronto International Film Festival, running from September 5th to the 15th.

The movie is a musical adaptation that premiered on stage at the Rebel Theatre in Sydney back in 2022, by Hannah Reilly and Megan Washington. It also features Natalie Abbott as one of its stars.
