Rebel Moon Franchise Gets Hopeful Update on Future and New Films
According to one of the screenwriters, Zack Snyder‘s franchise is making excellent progress, as indicated by Kurt Johnstad. Johnstad, who collaborated on the first two movies, suggests that the space opera film series has just begun and expresses optimism about Netflix approving additional installments in the near future.
In conversation with “I Minutemen”, Johnstad shared that he and Snyder have planned out four additional installments of “Rebel Moon”. Yet, he expressed uncertainty if these films will be released on Netflix, as they are awaiting confirmation from the streaming platform about the progress of “Rebel Moon” and the necessary funding to produce them. “We’ve plotted movies 3, 4, 5, and 6”, Johnstad said. “As for how these projects materialize and where the finances will come from, that’s beyond my control. I sincerely hope we have the opportunity to bring this story to its conclusion because it’s a fascinating universe, and I enjoy crafting those characters.
The first two installments of the “Rebel Moon” series, titled “A Child of Fire” and its sequel, were released in late 2023 and the following spring. Each film was given an R-rated director’s cut with new titles: “Chalice of Blood” for the first, and “Curse of Forgiveness” for the second. Johnstad remains hopeful that the “Rebel Moon” saga will carry on, as its fate remains uncertain. He expressed optimism, stating, “We have a clear vision of where we can take this story, and we’ve outlined every detail extensively – Zack has even mapped out the entire world for us. With a little luck and divine intervention, we may return to that world again.
Rebel Moon Was Conceived as an R-Rated Star Wars
In a make-believe universe governed by The Motherland and their armed forces, the Imperium, who pose a threat to a village on the moon, Veldt, is where the story of “Rebel Moon” unfolds. The movie follows Kora (), a former Imperium soldier, as she enlists soldiers from across the galaxy to resist the military before they strike back at Veldt. Starring alongside Anthony Hopkins, who has won an Academy Award, Djimon Hounsou, nominated for an Oscar, Ray Fisher known from the DC Extended Universe, and Ed Skrein famous for his role in “Deadpool”, the films titled “A Child of Fire” and “The Scargiver” received harsh criticism from critics. The former garnered a 22% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the latter a dismal 16%. However, these movies are still worth a watch.
Anticipation builds for the upcoming “Rebel Moon” films, and director Zack Snyder is expanding the “Rebel Moon” universe with various projects. Last autumn, he introduced a new story titled “The Seneschal: A Rebel Moon Tale” and recently launched “Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game“. This game, released in January, enables players to construct distinct rebel factions to face the forces of the Motherworld.
In the meantime, it’s currently under development and has just given us a preview. This prequel, published by Titan Comics, will be available on store shelves starting from July 16th.
Fans can stream both films and their director’s cuts via Netflix.
