Rebecca Ferguson doesn’t want a Greatest Showman sequel
As a dedicated fan who’s seen “The Greatest Showman” more times than I can count, it’s with a heavy heart that I hear Rebecca Ferguson isn’t keen on a sequel. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see more of Jenny Lind, the opera singer who stole our hearts and made us believe in the magic of the circus?
Rebecca Ferguson has no interest in a sequel to The Greatest Showman.
Debuting in 2017, the successful musical film tells the story of how PT Barnum, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, rose from his humble beginnings to stardom, assembling an eclectic troupe of artists to establish a trailblazing circus.
In the movie, Ferguson played the role of Jenny Lind, a well-known opera performer. She turned out to be a crucial element in Barnum’s exhibition, causing tension not only in his career but also in his private life.
Although the movie was highly successful and many fans are eagerly awaiting a follow-up, Ferguson seems less enthusiastic about it.
“No! Stop that. Come on!” she told Collider when asked about the possibility of a follow-up film.
Occasionally, it’s better not to interfere – partly due to feelings of envy arising. It seems my role has been diminished somewhat. I might return in another life as a circus performer who juggles.
Although it was apparently approved in 2019, Jackman announced in 2022 that no plans had been made for a sequel.
As a gamer, I can tell you that there’s always a possibility for more exciting adventures ahead. Over my gaming career, I’ve been part of some fantastic sequels. However, at the moment, there’s no blueprint or script for the next chapter – it’s all still up in the air!
In July of this year, the actor expressed his openness to the idea of a sequel.
He mentioned to E! News that the project has been going on for eight years. If we started five years ago, it means there are another nine years to go. I adore that film and every aspect of it. Therefore, I am definitely open to continuing with it.
Previously, Zac Efron had voiced his own aspirations for another movie, stating in 2019: “Hugh (Jackman) is involved in various projects, including a solo stage show. What’s next? I’m not sure, but I hope there’ll be a sequel.
