Rebecca Ferguson confirms Dune: Part Three return despite being “barely in the book”

Rebecca Ferguson will return as Lady Jessica in *Dune: Part Three*, even though her character isn’t featured much in *Dune Messiah*, the book the movie will be based on.

Rebecca Ferguson told IndieWire that director Denis Villeneuve found a way to include her in the film adaptation.

She commented on her role, explaining that it’s relatively small in this installment, as Lady Jessica appears only briefly in the source material.

What to Read Next

I wasn’t sure if I was right for the part, but Denis had a vision. The screenplay is amazing. Adapting the book into a movie was really challenging because it’s so complex and has a lot of story to cover.

Denis occasionally gets involved, and when he does, he’s truly exceptional. He’s eager to contribute to the book and establish connections to it, and everything he works on is fantastic.

Ferguson has said that if Lady Jessica, a character who appears in *Dune: Messiah*, were to come back, she already knows something she wouldn’t want to happen with the role.

She previously stated she’s fine as long as her character isn’t placed in a hot, stuffy environment, like covered in layers of clothing.

The character briefly leaves and isolates herself, seemingly lost in thought. It’s like she’s secretly taking on a powerful, maternal role throughout the story. Honestly, it feels a bit absurd, like saying I’d be a teapot.

Recent news about *Dune: Part Three* reveals that Jason Momoa will reprise his role as Duncan Idaho, even though his character died in the previous film. In addition, Momoa’s son has also been cast in the movie.

Nakoa-Wolf Momoa will portray Leto II, the son of Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (played by Zendaya).

As a fan, it’s just amazing to hear Jason Momoa talk about his son! He said he really wants his kids to surpass him, and he genuinely thinks his son already has. He even admitted he couldn’t have handled what his son is doing at that age – it’s such a proud dad moment!

The third Dune movie is scheduled to come out on December 18, 2026. You can watch the first Dune film on ITVX, and the second one is available if you have a Sky Cinema or NOW Cinema subscription.
