In 1991, Reba McEntire experienced a severe depression following the tragic death of eight members of her band. Their plane crashed into Otay Mountain just ten minutes after leaving the airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board determined that the crash was caused by inadequate flight planning by the pilots, Donald Holmes and Chris Hollinger, who were unfamiliar with the mountainous area they were flying over.
The country singer, age 70, has sadly lost several long-time band members and crew, including guitarists Chris Austin and Michael Thomas, keyboardists Kirk Cappello and Joey Cigainero, vocalist Paula Kaye Evans, bassist Terry Jackson, drummer Anthony Saputo, and road manager Jim Hammon.
Reba McEntire, along with her husband and manager Narvel Blackstock, and their stylist, traveled from San Diego to Nashville on a separate private plane.
The Grammy-winning artist shared with Garden & Gun that returning to the stage was a difficult experience.
Vince Gill personally called to offer his support, and Dolly Parton generously offered her entire band. It was incredibly heartwarming to see so many people rally around and offer comfort, because a lot of us were deeply hurting at the time.
Reba McEntire, whose 1991 album For My Broken Heart was dedicated to a band member who had passed away, shared her thoughts on dealing with loss. She explained that it’s important to acknowledge what happened and then focus on how to move forward.
Originally from Oklahoma, she turned to prayer and came to terms with the situation. She decided there was no use dwelling on it, and instead focused on moving ahead by finding work and keeping herself busy.
On Monday, Reba McEntire celebrated the 80th birthday of a beloved performer, who needs just one Tony Award to achieve EGOT status (winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony). She shared a heartfelt message, saying she loves them dearly and cherishes their years of memories together, and looks forward to creating many more.
Dolly Parton received a lovely birthday surprise: a cake and a bagpipe performance sent by U2’s Bono.
The famous blonde singer collaborated with a powerful red-haired vocalist to reimagine her 1977 hit, ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning.’ Joining them on the track were Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, and pianist David Foster.
All money earned from this song will be donated to support cancer research for children at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Oh my gosh, it was Dolly Parton herself who gave Reba McEntire the HUGE honor of being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame back in 2011! And get this – they actually sang together! They took Reba’s amazing song ‘Does He Love You’ from 1993 and did a new version in 2021. It was a dream come true, honestly. Two of my absolute favorites together?! I nearly fainted!
Dolly Parton, the founder of Dollywood, has had 25 songs reach number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Kenny Rogers, known for his hit “The Trailblazer,” has achieved the same feat with 24 number-one songs.
March 3rd will be one year since Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, passed away at the age of 82. The cause of death was not revealed, and the couple had been married for almost 59 years.
Dolly Parton, known for her humanitarian work, has delayed her Las Vegas show, “Dolly: Live in Las Vegas,” at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace until September because of health concerns.
Meanwhile, McEntire will rerelease her 1995 album Starting Over this Friday.
Award-winning actress Leslie Jordan executive produces and stars in season two of the NBC sitcom ‘Happy’s Place’. She plays Bobbie, the owner of a bar in Knoxville, alongside her real-life fiancé Rex Linn, who plays the cook Emmett. The show airs on Fridays.
Miranda McEntire, Lainey Wilson, and Miranda Lambert’s song “Trailblazer” is nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ on February 1st.
The award-winning group will be up against strong competition from Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton, George Strait & Chris Stapleton, Margo Price & Tyler Childers, and Shaboozey & Jelly Roll.
