Reality TV star details horrific birth trauma after welcoming her first child with footy player partner: ‘I have no memory of meeting my son’

Tilly Whitfeld, who appeared on Big Brother, recently shared the difficult experience she had during childbirth after welcoming her first baby with rugby player Tommy Latu in January.

The 25-year-old new mother shared that her son was delivered via an emergency C-section after complications during labor earlier this year.

In a recent Instagram video, Tilly revealed the birth was so upsetting that she has no memory of actually meeting her baby.

Holding her son, Western Fonua Latu, she shared that she hadn’t known how frequently birth trauma occurs.

I felt it was a very personal and somewhat self-centered experience. I realize many people long to have children and would give anything to be pregnant.

‘I was told I could never have children, so I understand that experience as well.’

Honestly, going into labor, I was already terrified of hospitals and doctors. It turns out that fear wasn’t just about the birth itself – I’d actually experienced medical trauma before, stemming from a previous breast implant surgery. It really colored my whole experience, and I’m finally understanding why I felt so anxious.

I was hoping for a natural birth and expected everything to go smoothly, but it ended with an emergency C-section after two hours of labor and pushing.

It’s hard to explain, but the experience was incredibly difficult. The epidural wasn’t providing relief on one side, so they had to administer a spinal block as well.

I had an asthma attack triggered by asthma related to my pregnancy. The spinal and epidural I received during labor also affected my breathing, and I ended up being very sick and vomiting.

Oh my god, I was completely losing it! It’s all just a blur, honestly. I don’t even remember actually meeting his son – it’s like my brain just wiped the moment. Thankfully, I have videos to prove it even happened! I was such a wreck afterwards, I basically lived in bed for six weeks, just trying to process everything.

‘I was not well in the head after it.’

Tilly shared that after having her son, many women reached out to her via direct message, sharing their own stories of challenging births.

She shared that while she loves her baby, the experience of pregnancy and childbirth was so difficult that she doesn’t want to go through it again.

The couple revealed their son’s unique name, sharing that it was ‘Western Fonua Latu,’ according to the caption.

After 20 hours of labor and two hours of pushing, an emergency C-section became necessary, but we are overjoyed with our new baby and our lives are forever changed.

We’re incredibly thankful for the midwives and doctors who helped bring our baby into the world. Thank you all for thinking of us – we’re completely lost in the joy of new parenthood!

The announcement included a video showing footage of the birth, as well as a new tattoo Tommy got to celebrate his son.

The reality star and rugby union player announced they were expecting in August last year.

In a cute video, Tilly revealed she’s expecting a baby by showing off a positive pregnancy test and her baby bump, which was visible in her white crop top and low-rise skirt.

‘You guys, do you think this is positive? Do I look pregnant?’ Tilly joked.

Tommy chimed in, hilariously asking, ‘Who did that?’ as he pointed at his partner’s belly.

The video then showed a series of clips of the couple sharing the news with their family and friends that they were having a son.

We’re thrilled to announce we’re expecting! This wasn’t something we planned for so soon, it definitely came as a surprise, but we’re incredibly excited to start this new journey.

‘To our little boy – we cannot wait to meet you, you’re already loved more than you’ll ever know.’
