Realistic Looking Green Lanterns’ Photos Debunked Amid Teaser Debut

James Gunn addressed online buzz about incredibly realistic images appearing to be from a Green Lantern project. People were questioning if the images were real, and Gunn explained where they came from without revealing too much. This followed DC’s first preview of the Lanterns series at an event in São Paulo.

James Gunn clarifies if two Green Lanterns’ photos are real

James Gunn has confirmed that images recently shared online showing Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart with glowing rings are fake. He responded to a question about the photos on Threads, stating they were created using artificial intelligence (AI).

Fans online were amazed by the images, with many commenting on how lifelike they looked. One person wrote, “This is unbelievably realistic!,” and another said they would only trust images directly from the source. These responses show just how convincing AI-generated images can be. James Gunn then stepped in to correct some inaccurate information that was spreading about the series.

DC recently shared a first look at its upcoming “Lanterns” series during an event in São Paulo, Brazil. People at the event confirmed the teaser showed both Hal Jordan and John Stewart teaming up. According to the Brazilian website Omelete, the footage depicts Jordan briefly training Stewart, though it’s unclear why Stewart needs the training or who he’s replacing. DC hasn’t yet made the footage available to the public.

The video also includes a reference to Ch’p, a squirrel-like alien from the planet H’lven, who is a member of the Green Lantern Corps. This confirms he’ll be part of the new DC Universe. In the comics, Ch’p is a leader in the fight against Doctor Ub’x, receiving his Green Lantern ring from the Guardians and becoming a member of the Corps. Including him shows the show will explore some of the more obscure Green Lantern stories.

During one part of the show, Stewart claims he’s a better rescuer than Jordan. Jordan responds by soaring into the sky—just wearing everyday clothes and his power ring—without any costume or equipment. DC Comics intends to release the ‘Lanterns’ series after ‘Supergirl,’ with a planned release date in 2026.
