So, I just heard about Sophie Turner’s new movie, and the story is actually based on a real heist! It’s called Steal, and it’s about someone robbing a pension fund company. She plays Zara, an employee there who gets caught up when the robbers start making demands. Sounds intense – definitely adding it to my watchlist!
Sotiris Nikitas, the creator of the series, recently shared that his experiences in the finance world were the inspiration behind the show. He explained that the company where he used to work served as the foundation for the story in Steal.
He explained to RadioTimes.com that a huge amount of money flows through the computers of financial firms in the City of London, being sent all over the globe.

The thought was simply that these places held far more money than typical banks, but had virtually no security measures in place.
Nikitas explained that the idea for the story came from imagining his workplace being robbed. He realized it would make a great thriller.
He explained that the events portrayed were incredibly realistic. Having previously worked at the company depicted, he based the scripts on the actual process of transferring money, aiming for complete authenticity. He expressed hope that viewers would find it believable.
“Steal” is a fast-paced, modern thriller centered around a daring, large-scale heist. The cast includes Archie Madekwe, known for his role in “Saltburn,” and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd from “The Queen’s Gambit.”
In a review for Digital Spy, the series received two stars. While praising star Naomi Turner for being captivating, the review noted that the show itself wasn’t quite as strong as her performance.
The show’s writing, by creator SA Nikias, has potential, particularly in its exploration of class differences in modern London and the lengths people will go to for a better life. Unfortunately, the final product doesn’t quite live up to its own ambitions, and isn’t as clever or engaging as it believes itself to be.
