Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger has been released from prison earlier than expected.
The famous television personality, aged 62, was discharged from the Montgomery County Detention Center on September 2, a full half-year before her initially planned release date. This information was verified by a representative of the detention center and shared with Page Six.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Huger’s representatives, but they have not yet responded.
In February, a court in Maryland handed down a one-year prison sentence to the TV personality following her conviction on almost all charges linked to her DUI arrest and vehicle accident in Bethesda, Maryland, which took place in March 2024.
Moving forward, I’ll be under supervised release for a span of five years following my recent release. Furthermore, I’m temporarily barred from operating a vehicle for the next twelve months as part of my conditions.
As a connoisseur of all things stylish and contemporary, I find it regrettable to acknowledge that a beloved figure on Bravo Television has a less-than-ideal track record regarding alcohol-related incidents. Specifically, this individual has experienced three prior arrests, each time for driving under the influence – a situation that underscores the importance of responsible alcohol consumption and safe driving practices.

The judge, despite prosecutors asking for a six-month prison term for the ‘Bravo’ star, instead handed down the maximum penalty, considering she had three prior incidents related to alcohol on her record.
During her sentencing, Judge Terrence McGann of Montgomery County Circuit Court stated that Huger was “extremely intoxicated” or “highly under the influence of alcohol,” according to Fox5’s report.
Huger’s legal team requested leniency from the judge, explaining that she was deeply mourning the loss of her parents and dealing with the challenges of taking antidepressants.
In 2017, Ms. Huger sadly lost her mother on Thanksgiving morning due to kidney failure and sepsis. Seven months later, on June 28, 2018, her father passed away as a result of complications from Alzheimer’s and what Huger’s legal representatives described as a ‘broken heart.’
For Ms. Huger, the two consecutive losses were a deeply personal blow, potentially tipping her over the edge and causing questionable decisions that ultimately resulted in her arrest in this particular situation.
In the end, it was determined that Huger had been driving excessively fast given the road conditions, leading to her eventual collision with a median and two signs.
Judge McGann posed this question during the sentencing: “When should we impose your jail term, the fifth instance?” or “On what occasion, the fifth time, will we sentence you to prison time?
As a lifestyle advocate, I’d like to ponder this: Could it be that she’s managed to drive under the influence just four times over the past 17 years? Or is it possible that her luck has been exceptionally good, and instances of inebriation have slipped under the radar? Such thoughts certainly cross my mind.

Following her conviction, video recordings from the evening of her collision were disclosed, showing her speaking in a seemingly confused state. She identified herself as the concubine of Thomas Jefferson and stated that she was highly intelligent to the law enforcement officials present.
Huger, who claimed the accident occurred when she was in an extremely emotional state, was subsequently accused of driving under the influence (DUI) and driving while intoxicated (DWI).
As a die-hard admirer, I’ve got to say, it wasn’t the first time this happened with Karen back in 2016 when she confessed to BOSSIP that she’d been nabbed a decade ago for a DUI incident.
She shared that she had been stopped (by law enforcement), noting at the time that while she wasn’t driving, she was asked to stop in an area where parking is prohibited.
After shutting down the vehicle, I reached out to my spouse. But before he could answer, the toy police located me, and I was arrested for driving under the influence.
She pled guilty to ‘Driving While Impaired By Alcohol’ and was put on probation at the time.
Despite missing the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion, Hunger had pre-recorded a message to explain her recent actions concerning antidepressant use and alcohol consumption, as she was about to enter treatment.

‘No, I’m not an alcoholic, let’s be clear,’ she said.
Although this situation is incredibly distressing, I want to take full accountability for the car accident. At the moment, my own well-being doesn’t matter much to me, but my deep concern lies with my children and family who have been injured.
Huger had claimed she was innocent for the entirety if the latest season of the hit Bravo show.
Following her conviction last year, her lawyer released a statement expressing that Huger felt let down by the jury’s decision.
In a statement to People, A. Scott Bolden expressed that while they were disheartened by the jury’s ruling, they wholeheartedly respect their judgment and are thankful for the time they spent considering their case.
Bolden, being a partner at Reed Smith law firm, stated, ‘We still plan to allow Mrs. Huger the opportunity for an appeal and will aggressively work towards achieving justice for her.’
‘We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time.’
