‘Real Housewives of Potomac’s’ Karen Huger found guilty of DUI, negligent driving
As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for the dramatic twists and turns of reality television, I find myself compelled to weigh in on this latest development involving Karen Huger from “Real Housewives of Potomac.
Television personality Karen Huger, known for her role on ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’, has been found guilty of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving offenses, which stemmed from a car accident she was involved in back in March. The verdict came several months after her arrest.
According to reports, a Maryland jury convicted Bravo personality Huger on charges of exceeding the speed limit to prevent a crash and failing to inform authorities about a new address, following a trial held earlier this week. However, Huger was acquitted of reckless driving.
Maryland State Attorney John McCarthy stated that operating a vehicle while impaired poses an extremely high risk.
Each year, we handle numerous driving under the influence (DUI) cases and treat each one with great importance. In this specific case, we approached it no differently than any other, considering the facts presented and her driving record. It’s important to remind everyone to always drive responsibly while sober and prioritize safety on our roads.
The 61-year-old reality TV star could face up to two years in prison.

Karen Huger, a cast member on ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’, was apprehended, given a citation, and subsequently freed this week, following accusations that she drove her Maserati while intoxicated and was involved in a collision.
Attorney A. Scott Bolden, representing Huger, expressed disappointment with the verdict yet acknowledged their respect for the decision and gratitude for the court’s time spent considering their case.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for Huger declined an immediate comment from The Times when approached.
On March 19, authorities in Maryland apprehended Huger around 11:50 PM local time following a one-car accident in Potomac, an incident later verified by the Montgomery County Police Department to The Times. It is alleged that Huger veered across a median and struck street signs, causing her Maserati to crash.
She was detained for allegedly driving while intoxicated and various traffic offenses, then freed from police custody later. Shortly following her apprehension, Huger linked the incident to her grief over her mother’s 2017 passing. “Grief hits in waves, but as Mother’s Day nears, it feels like a tidal wave,” she stated back then.
According to Huger’s account given to TMZ, the car accident took place following a dinner conversation about emotionally charged subjects with a friend. She admitted feeling overwhelmed by her emotions on the drive home which apparently led to the collision. In her March statement, Huger claimed she noticed another vehicle approaching head-on and swiftly veered to avoid a possible crash. After hitting a divider, she also struck a tree.
This week’s trial featured witness accounts and police body camera footage examined by The Times, which captured Huger shortly following the car accident. In this video, she appears to reject showing her driver’s license, speaks with visible slur, demands officers to keep their hands off her, and requests privacy. Additional footage shows Huger asking an officer to deactivate their body cam.
Huger’s sentencing is tentatively set for Jan. 29, 2025.
