Real Housewives of Miami star Dr. Nicole Martin EXITS show amid battle with postpartum anxiety

As someone who has walked the path of motherhood and mental health struggles, I wholeheartedly empathize with Dr. Nicole Martin and her decision to step back from Real Housewives of Miami. Life as an anesthesiologist, reality TV star, wife, and mother is no easy feat, and it takes immense courage to prioritize one’s wellbeing amidst the chaos.

Dr. Nicole Martin, a cast member on “Real Housewives of Miami,” has shared that she’s choosing to reduce her involvement with the reality TV series.

On Friday, the 39-year-old anesthesiologist shared candidly about her challenges following childbirth through a heartfelt social media message.

Recently, Dr. Martin, now a proud parent alongside her partner Anthony Lopez to their five-month-old baby girl Genevieve, disclosed that she has been battling intense postnatal anxiety.

In a heartfelt post, I’ve shared a tranquil moment cradling my little one. In the accompanying caption, I wanted to shed light on something often overlooked – the prevalence of postpartum anxiety. More women experience this than we typically discuss.

She described to People, ‘It’s an intense, overwhelming sense of worry and fear that comes out of nowhere and just consumes me,’ and noted, ‘I just don’t think that I am in the headspace to film a full season of reality TV.’

Martin expressed to the media outlet, “Being a mother is undoubtedly my dearest and most significant role among all the different roles I play. It’s the one I treasure the most.

‘But I’d be lying if I said dealing with this [anxiety] has been easy.’

In her post’s title, she shared that she was highlighting a matter she’s been dealing with privately in her personal experiences…

On the 26th of March, we were filled with pride as our little girl, Baby Genevieve, arrived earlier than expected, around five weeks before her due date. She spent nearly two weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

In addition to Genevieve, Nicole and Anthony also share five-year-old son Greyson.

In the message to her 375,000 fans, she added, “Following this pregnancy, I’ve been struggling with intense postpartum anxiety – a condition that I didn’t encounter during my earlier pregnancy.

A week following childbirth, the new mother described feeling an unexpected surge of anxiety and apprehension. Her thoughts seemed to be perpetually tense, as if her mind were in a constant state of alarm, fretting uncontrollably over the well-being of her baby, herself, and her family.

In her conversation with People, she expressed, “I have deep affection for many of the ladies I work with on set, yet our personalities are robust, leading to intense conflicts and dramatic situations, not forgetting the extended working hours. It’s a challenging balancing act, so I’m adjusting my focus and rearranging my priorities.

‘That’s not what’s best for me at this time. I need to put myself and my family first right now.’

Nicole joined the Real Housewives of Miami cast, which includes Larsa Pippen, in season four.

She was offered a full-time contract for season seven, which is currently in production.

Despite her stepping down, the doctor is still scheduled to appear on the show.

She mentioned that it’s not a permanent farewell; she’ll occasionally reappear, though not as a regular fixture. At the moment, she needs to redirect her attention towards different matters.

In a subsequent Instagram post, the reality TV personality expressed: ‘Approximately 20% of mothers struggle with mental health issues during or following pregnancy, many of these troubles remaining unacknowledged and unattended. By openly discussing our personal stories, we can provide solace and empowerment to one another, and underscore that we’re not the only ones facing these challenges.’

Expanding further in her words, ‘I’m finding my way through this aspect of my life, which has been a tumultuous emotional journey, similar to a wild ride on a rollercoaster. At this point in time, I’ve chosen not to rejoin Real Housewives of Miami.’

At the present time, it’s essential for me to prioritize both my wellbeing and my loved ones. This move is crucial for my recovery and restoring equilibrium, and I trust that you will comprehend and stand by my decision.

In her heartfelt message, she acknowledged her supporters, saying, ‘I am truly grateful for joining me on this journey and for providing a safe space where I feel at ease expressing personal aspects of my life. May my transparency inspire those facing similar struggles and foster mutual support during difficult times. With warm regards, Nicole.’
