Ready or Not 2 Release Date Announced for April 2026
As a cinephile eagerly anticipating the next chapter, I’m thrilled to announce that “Ready or Not: Here I Come” has concluded filming, and a release date is now set—a mere six years and a half since the original film, “Ready or Not,” graced our screens. The sequel was first confirmed to be in development back in 2024, and it’s been moving swiftly ever since. The original film’s heroine, Samara Weaving, will reprise her role, and the cast includes Kathryn Newton (“Abigail”), Sarah Michelle Gellar (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Kevin Durand (“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”), Olivia Cheng (“Deadly Class”), Shawn Hatosy (“The Pitt”), Néstor Carbonell (“Lost”), Elijah Wood (“Lord of the Rings”), and none other than the legendary David Cronenberg himself. Can’t wait to see this ensemble bring the Le Domas family’s chaos to life once more!
According to Variety, Searchlight Pictures has announced that the movie “Ready or Not: Here I Come” will be released in theaters on April 10, 2026. Furthermore, they revealed that filming for the movie has wrapped up with a photograph of stars Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton. In this picture, Weaving is seen wearing a striking red dress, while she donned a white wedding dress in the original production. Kathryn Newton’s attire seems to be splattered with blood.
But don’t just take our word for it, check out the image in the next section below!
‘Ready or Not: Here I Come’ vs. ‘The Mummy’
On August 21, 2019, the movie “Ready or Not” made its theater debut, introducing audiences to Grace (Samara Weaving), an unforeseen bride who finds herself in a chilling predicament when she marries into a wealthy family with a dark secret: they are devil-worshippers planning to hunt her down during a game of hide and seek before dawn. The initial release raked in $28 million within U.S. theaters on a budget of just $6 million, garnering positive feedback from critics. This film catapulted directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to stardom, as they went on to helm other horror hits like “Scream” (2022), “Scream VI” (2023), and “Abigail” (2024), which brought back stars Kathryn Newton and Kevin Durand from “Ready or Not: Here I Come.
A week after Universal Pictures’ “Super Mario World” release, “Ready or Not: Here I Come” will debut, catering to a distinct audience. However, it should brace itself for competition the following week when Sony Pictures’ “The Mummy,” directed by Lee Cronin of “Evil Dead Rise,” premieres in theaters on April 17, 2026. Despite the potential box office clash, horror enthusiasts are in for a treat with Cronin and the team of Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett leading the genre’s charge at the moment.
It’s intriguing to consider how the six-and-a-half year gap between the initial release of “Ready or Not” and its upcoming sequel might impact its box office performance. This lengthy interval has allowed the original film to cultivate a dedicated fanbase, which is evident given its cult status now. Fan excitement is high as a result. However, in the realm of horror films, swift follow-ups are often more effective because they capitalize on the initial hype and keep momentum going. A well-executed marketing strategy, coupled with a budget comparable to that of the first film, could help “Ready or Not: Here I Come” reap profits and potentially recreate the enchantment of the original production.
