Reading Rainbow” is returning with a new host, new books and a new digital home.

The preview for the revived PBS show came out on Monday. Host Mychal Threets-who many know as Mychal the Librarian-shared a sneak peek of upcoming episodes featuring famous guests, creative art activities, and other exciting content.

Growing up, Reading Rainbow was a huge part of my life,” I shared on Threads. “LeVar Burton is honestly my hero. It’s no exaggeration to say I became a reader, and eventually a librarian, because of how powerfully Reading Rainbow and LeVar Burton made kids like me feel like books-and everywhere else-were for us.”

Even though it dealt with political challenges and caused some doubt among publishers, ‘Reading Rainbow’ helped many American children discover the joy of reading.

Threets is famous as the cheerful and approachable librarian from the Bay Area who posts touching stories online about her experiences with library visitors and everyday events. She does this to show everyone that libraries are inclusive spaces for all.

“Oh! If you’re disappointed I’m not LeVar BurtonGET BEHIND ME!” he continued in another post. “I’m leading the charge! … We’re all hoping for that LeVar Burton Reading Rainbow Storytime read-aloud experience! But I’ll do everything I can to make him and all the children who love libraries proud.”

The original “Reading Rainbow,” famously hosted by LeVar Burton, first aired in 1983 and remained a popular program on PBS for over 23 years. The show, which won both Emmy and Peabody Awards, encouraged a love of books and reading throughout its 155 episodes, making it one of the longest-running children’s programs in television history.

“The show makes reading seem enjoyable,” Burton explained in 1993. “It shows reading as something fun and exciting, like an adventure.”

Movies

Four decades after the debut of ‘Reading Rainbow,’ Star Trek actor LeVar Burton is now advocating for children’s literacy initiatives through his new documentary, ‘The Right to Read.’

I got a sneak peek at the trailer, and it looks like they’re having some fun guests on the show! We’ll see “Dancing With the Stars” pros Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa, and even “The Bear” actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach – who, by the way, is a proud cat dad. But it’s not just faces! They’ve also got some great voices lined up to narrate books, including Jamie Chung, Adam DeVine, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen. And where can you watch all this? New episodes of the revamped “Reading Rainbow” will be dropping on Sony Pictures Television’s Kidzuko, which is their YouTube channel specifically for kids.

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the revived series will premiere on Saturday, with fresh episodes released each week through October 25th.
