Reading Festival organisers reveal the reason Lana Del Rey's set was cut short and issue apology to disappointed fans

As I read through this article, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by Raye’s story. Coming to Reading Festival at 16 with a dream and now, years later, playing on the same stage is truly remarkable. It’s a testament to the power of perseverance and the magic that can happen when you believe in your dreams.

Festival organizers for the Reading event expressed their apologies to Lana Del Rey’s fans via Instagram, as they had to abruptly end her headlining performance on Saturday evening.

The festival shared a statement on Sunday morning revealing that the American singers, 39, performance was cut short by five minutes ‘due to production error’.

As a devoted admirer, I regret to inform you that due to an unfortunate oversight by our Reading production team, Lana Del Rey’s extraordinary performance was inadvertently truncated by five minutes. On behalf of the entire team, we sincerely apologize to Lana and her dedicated fans for this mistake.

Despite a somewhat rocky performance, she encountered audio problems at the Festival, causing some spectators to depart after only hearing four songs.

The artist known for “Summertime Sadness” faced criticism as she took the stage 15 minutes later than scheduled and for her supposedly “depressing” performance playlist.

She opened her slot with Norman F****** Rockwell, before going into Arcadia, Without You and West Coast.

Nevertheless, Lana encountered technical issues as loud ‘techno’ music from a different stage overpowered her sounds.

As the audience strained their ears to listen to the soft melodies of the performer, they could be overheard repeatedly urging, “Make it louder, make it louder!” due to the difficulty in catching the subtle tones of his performance.

According to a source, TopMob was informed that she was stunning and the backdrop resembled a castle, however, there was an unfortunate lack of audience noise due to it being too quiet. Additionally, the bass from another stage overpowered her performance.

At a certain moment, she inquired, “Are you able to listen to me above the techno music?” As the audience chanted “Louderrr” and exited after four songs, many chose to do so.

She decided to take a rest by laying down on the stage during a couple of songs, making herself hard to spot, and much of her music was melancholic, which didn’t fit the upbeat atmosphere of the festival.

The audience eagerly anticipated her appearance and waited patiently for an hour or more, but unfortunately, they weren’t feeling the rhythm of the songs she was performing. She had to switch to something more energetic instead.

TopMob has contacted representatives for Lana Del Rey and Festival Republic for comment.

Following Lana’s act, it was Fred’s turn once more to take center stage for his inaugural UK headlining show.

At the outset, he confessed that he felt a bit jittery prior to delivering an extraordinary performance for the multitude of spectators.

He said: ‘Hey Reading, I’m a bit nervous. I know how you feel out there, this was my first festival when I was sixteen, I remember this s*** so clearly, so I know exactly how you feel.’

At the start of the day, Raye got emotional while addressing a large audience, sharing that she used to perform for only two people at a festival, and had often hoped that someday, people would truly care about her music.

The six-time Brit Award-winner, 26, stunned at the festival in a chocolate brown sequinned dress.

Raye, who performed effortlessly without shoes, was joined on stage by her backup singers, all dressed in a mix of white and black attire.

On stage, Raye shared with the audience that playing at this festival had long been one of her dreams.

Initially, I never imagined that I would kick things off on the main stage amidst such a large crowd. This is utterly insane! But guess what? I’ve accomplished it, folks!

At the age of sixteen, I moved to Reading after completing my GCSEs, and I found myself thrown into deep waters. Life for me was happening within the dance tent.

When I attended this festival at the age of 16, I felt something like: “I’ll perform here someday, and I can hardly believe we’re here.”

I’ve played at numerous subpar festivals, and when I say “subpar,” I don’t mean the festival brand itself. Instead, I mean I’d show up to perform and often find myself in front of just two people in the crowd. I’d always hope that someone would take notice someday, and now, here I am performing at Reading.

‘Anything is possible: I was here at 16 with a dream and look at me now.’

Six of the songs in Raye’s set were upbeat and positive but one focused on sexual assault.

Prior to the song, Raye expressed: “When I became an independent artist, I vowed to create authentic music, based on my experiences. This kind of music has healing power – it can uplift your spirit and make you feel understood and appreciated.”

‘I am a crier and this is a sad song but I’m going to sing it, I pray you don’t relate to it but if you do I hope it feels like a hug. It’s called Ice Cream Man.’

festival-goers at Reading Festival remain unfazed by the rain showers in Berkshire, donning ponchos and eagerly awaiting the chance to dance to their favorite musicians.

As a long-time resident of the United Kingdom, I can confidently say that the British weather is unpredictable at best and downright treacherous at worst. This weekend, it seems we are in for another dose of the latter as Storm Lilian is set to hit parts of our fair country.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for south east of England, as parts of the country prepare for between 50mm and 70mm.

The warning, effective from 6am to 1pm, encompassed a route extending from Portsmouth, Hampshire, all the way to Ipswich in Suffolk.

Although the heavy rainfall has left festivalgoers drenched, they were still all smiles as they watched the likes of The Last Dinner Party in the afternoon.

In other parts of Leeds, the weather improved following strong winds that hit the location on Thursday. Organizers advised campers to remain in their vehicles for safety reasons.

Due to the harsh weather conditions, the music festival located in the north chose to shut down three of its stages: the BBC Radio 1 stage, the Aux stage, and Chevron.
