Reading and Leeds Festival 2024 line-up, BBC TV and radio schedule, and tickets

As a seasoned festival-goer who has seen more than a few summers pass by with tents and wellies, I can confidently say that the Reading and Leeds Festival is a must-attend event for any music lover. Having experienced the thrill of Glastonbury, the Big Weekend, and the 6 Music Festival, I can attest to the unique energy that these events bring. But there’s something about the combination of Richfield Avenue and Braham Park that just can’t be beat.

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, I can’t wait to be part of the thrilling return of Reading and Leeds Festivals – a must-attend event for students eagerly awaiting their GCSE and A-Level results, as well as festival enthusiasts looking to mark the end of an unforgettable summer.

BBC Music plans to attend the festival again this year, having previously covered events like Glastonbury, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and the 6 Music Festival extensively.

Additionally, the BBC Introducing stage, which serves as a hub for up-and-coming live performers, has been traveling to various UK festivals in 2022. These include The Great Escape, Latitude Festival, Glastonbury, and yet again, it will be back at Reading & Leeds.

2023’s lineup features dual main acts yet again, comprising Blink 182 and Gerry Cinnamon, followed by Lana Del Rey and Fred Again, and ending with Liam Gallagher and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Coverage on BBC TV, radio, and BBC Sounds often occurs primarily at the Reading Festival due to its close proximity to London. If you can’t get tickets this year or prefer not to camp, here are ways to stay updated with the action:

Indeed, the Reading Festival gets aired on television, but that’s not the case for the Leeds Festival. For the year 2023, notable acts like The Killers and Billie Eilish graced the stages, with their performances airing approximately an hour after the festival concluded on BBC One.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excitedly anticipating the 2024 BBC Reading Festival lineup! While I expect the usual broadcast style of coverage, I’ll keep this post updated with any new info regarding the TV and radio schedule as soon as it’s officially confirmed by the BBC. Stay tuned!

While I’m excitedly waiting for this year’s gaming event, I can catch up on some cool stuff from last year’s headliners on BBC iPlayer. Plus, there’s a mini-doc called “Reading and Leeds: A Rite of Passage” over there too. On the audio front, Sian Eleri took us through the ins and outs of this year’s event on BBC Sounds with her Radio 1’s Guide to Reading and Leeds 2024.

The clues are in the name, right?

At Reading, the annual Reading Festival unfolds on Richfield Avenue in the city of Reading. For travel details, check out their official site. In contrast, the Leeds Festival happens at Braham Park. To find travel information, visit our website instead.

Based on our past trips, the train journey from London Paddington to Reading is remarkably swift, taking roughly 20 minutes. Upon arrival, you have options such as walking, hailing a taxi, or hopping onto a £1.50 shuttle bus to reach the festival venue. For those who prefer to drive, be aware that you’ll need to purchase a parking ticket and traffic for drop-offs can get quite congested due to high demand.

How many people attend the Reading Festival / Leeds Festival?

Over the bank holiday weekend, it’s expected that approximately 240,000 music enthusiasts will be in attendance at the two festivals organized by Festival Republic.

In 2023, Reading Borough Council predicted around 105,000 attendees for Reading and almost 100,000 for Leeds. Considering this, it’s plausible that an additional 15,000 to 20,000 tickets were sold for both locations in the 2024 edition.

At the moment, the festival still has tickets available, suggesting that the final attendance could be less than the projected numbers. To give you an idea, it’s said that Glastonbury Festival accommodates around 210,000 attendees on its grounds. However, recent years have appeared to be quite bustling.

Performances by artists like The Prodigy, The Wombats, and Skrillex on the smaller stages at Reading Festival are expected to wrap up around 11:20 PM to 11:35 PM. On the other hand, performances at Leeds ended between 10:50 PM and 11:00 PM.

At the Reading Festival, DJs like Zoe London, the Ultimate Power club night, Mozey, Ac-13, Nathan Dawe, and Jeff Automatic will spin tunes on the Chevron After Hours stage, keeping the party going till 3 am.
