Reacher star’s new movie lands infamous 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating
I’m quite disappointed to share that Willa Fitzgerald, who plays Reacher in my favorite series, has a new film titled Alarum, which unfortunately has received a notorious 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the action-packed thriller, the actor known for portraying Roscoe Conklin in season 1 of Reacher and leading the Scream series on MTV, shares the screen with Sylvester Stallone, Scott Eastwood from Fast X, and Luke Cage’s Mike Colter.
The story revolves around a husband and wife duo (Fitzgerald and Eastwood), who are covert agents living away from civilization. Their tranquil existence is disrupted when hostile factions invade their secluded retreat in search of an elusive hard drive, creating tension and potentially dangerous situations for the couple.
Currently, all 15 collected reviews for the streaming-only/limited cinema release film in the U.S. have been negative, resulting in a 0% positive rating.
Criticisms often leveled at the film ‘Alarum‘ include its perceived lack of financial investment, as well as the action scenes, which some find to be predictable and visually unremarkable. Additionally, it’s been noted that the script lacks depth, and Sylvester Stallone’s performance is seen by many as unengaging.
Here’s what some reviews have said:
Variety
In simpler terms, “Michael Polish’s movie attempts to make up for its ordinary production with lots of action, but the way it’s presented is quite dull. The storyline by Alexander Vesha doesn’t feel convincing, and despite the talented cast, they struggle to create a spark.
ScreenRant
With a bit more finesse and guidance, the movie Alarum had the potential to achieve greatness. However, what’s presented to us is a film that can be embarrassingly poor at moments, with acting that seems stiff, devoid of emotion, and lacking in sense.
This observation is especially relevant when characters’ death scenes are portrayed as if they were simply tripping over, much like an individual leaving a bar after consuming excess alcohol.
Collider
In the realm of espionage narratives, it’s usual to encounter twists, betrayals, and numerous secretive organizations. However, the plot progression in this case is often hard to follow, as characters frequently switch allegiances without warning, typically representing ambiguous entities with unclear objectives.
Although the storyline’s development is insufficient, leading to its vague nature (it might be more enjoyable to simply follow along), it also hinders our ability to fully grasp the characters. To put it another way, the action sequences are a blend of good and bad. Occasionally, complicated battles occur in dull, uninteresting forests or an undecorated room within an ordinary house.
The movie “Alarum” is currently available for streaming on-demand and in selected theaters across the United States. As of now, a release date for the U.K. has not been set.
