At long last, the captivating “Strange Darling” makes its way into UK movie theaters this week, allowing British viewers to immerse themselves in what is undoubtedly the most compelling thriller of the year.
A highly praised film, boasting a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and currently maintaining a remarkable 94%, offers an exhilarating cat-and-mouse chase unlike any other in the realm of thrillers. The narrative unfolds as a woman navigates treacherous American wilderness, relentlessly pursued by a formidable predator.
In a conversation with Digital Spy, Willa Fitzgerald shared her thoughts about working on the set of ‘Strange Darling’. Despite the challenges, she revealed that everyone involved in the production, including the cast and crew, always sensed they had something extraordinary, even though filming was “extremely tough.
She reminisced, saying, “I believe everyone would concur that despite its difficulty, this job was special because each day we felt a sense of accomplishment, thinking, ‘Wow, we achieved something truly remarkable.’
It’s unusual to experience such a sensation, but it served as our motivation to persevere amidst challenging conditions. We were constantly outdoors, battling the elements, and had limited time due to filming only during daylight hours.
Despite several obstacles, there was an overwhelming drive within us to push ahead, fueled by our desire to share this captivating tale.
The key element that contributes significantly to the success of “Strange Darling” lies in the captivating dynamic between its leads, Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. In this tale, they enact characters embodying the Lady and the Beast.
The scenes depict various dramatic moments, ranging from passionate lovemaking in a hotel room to thrilling chase sequences. However, what truly elevates these scenes is that the actors had already established a mutual comprehension prior to shooting.
Fitzgerald shared that he adores Kyle deeply. Before they began filming, they only had a week’s time. Even before the actual shoot, they had a meal together, as Fitzgerald wanted to understand Kyle better,” (paraphrased).
It seems we’ve both invested considerable effort and thought into building a strong connection away from the main stage, allowing us to easily navigate the chaotic environment portrayed in “Strange Darling”.
Throughout our journey, we could always rely on each other’s support. Interestingly, we filmed some of the most intense sequences right at the start of production. I believe that conquering those early scenes provided a strong base for us to build upon, propelling us into even more extraordinary realms.
Strange Darling is released in UK cinemas on September 20, and is still out in select US cinemas.
