The first trailer for the new thriller, Motor City, is here and it looks intense. The film stars Alan Ritchson (known for Reacher) as John, a man recently released from prison who’s determined to get revenge on the gangster who framed him – especially after falling for the gangster’s girlfriend.
The preview shows John looking back on his life before he was imprisoned, while currently serving time. It then jumps to his release and his plans for revenge, which will involve firearms and other weapons. The fast-paced trailer also features a thrilling car chase, including a remarkable shot of John accurately shooting a ring out of the air with a shotgun.
The new film Motor City, set in the 1970s, features Shailene Woodley (known from Big Little Lies), Ben Foster (Hell or High Water), Pablo Schreiber (Halo), and Ben McKenzie (Gotham). It’s directed by Potsy Ponciroli (of Greedy People) and written by Chad St John (who worked on London Has Fallen).

The film debuted last year at the Venice Film Festival and has received positive reviews, currently holding a 70% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 23 reviews.
Region Free described the film as a relentlessly exciting and visually stunning experience, comparing it to a passionate tribute to Detroit, much like Michael Bay’s films are to classic American themes.
What to Read Next
According to Movies We Texted About, if more films expertly use visuals and sound to convey narratives without dialogue, we could see a resurgence of interest in the style of classic silent films.
If you’re looking for a stylish revenge story with well-made action scenes, you’ll probably enjoy Motor City. It’s a good example of a type of movie we need more of.

While The Hollywood Reporter acknowledged Alan Ritchson’s imposing presence adds weight to the film, they felt Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, and Pablo Schreiber were given roles that were too predictable and lacked impact.
Motor City is yet to confirm a UK release date.
