Reacher Season 2 Blu-ray review: Is it worth buying the Prime Video show’s set?

As a gamer with an extensive collection of Blu-rays and a deep love for Jack Reacher novels, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Reacher season 2. Having binged the first season on Prime Video and found it to be a thrilling adaptation, I was excited to see what the second installment would bring.

Starting from Tuesday, September 17, 2024, you can buy the second season of Reacher on Blu-ray. Is it worth investing in a year’s worth of this Prime Video success?

Following some struggles in its film series, primarily caused by Tom Cruise’s casting, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series found a new lease on life through the TV adaptation on Amazon Prime Video. The titular character, portrayed by Alan Ritchson, is a former American Army investigator whose imposing physique belies his razor-sharp deductive abilities.

Is the Reacher season 2 Blu-ray worth buying? 

1, and immersive audio quality through DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24 bit). This combination results in a visually stunning experience, packed with detail, and a top-notch sound mix that truly brings the audio to life.

As much as I was hoping to delve deeper into the making of this fantastic series, I’m disappointed to find that there are no bonus features like interviews, deleted scenes, or behind-the-scenes content. While these extras would have added value, you can still gather additional information by streaming it on Prime Video, with those helpful cast sidebars. However, due to the absence of these extras, it might be a tough decision whether to fully purchase the series for just the episodes.

If you’ve already watched Reacher on Prime Video, you may be able to skip the physical release as there are no extra features that make it worth the purchase. If you don’t, the show is a blast, from the fantastic leading man to the stellar action and fun storyline. At eight episodes, it flows well and brings the novels to life in a great way. The DVD set is light on bonus features yet the show is compelling enough for some to have at home so they can enjoy the brutal fun of Reacher anytime they want.

What happens in the second season

In a self-reliant journey across the nation, Reacher encounters predicaments. The commencement of season 2 introduces its atmosphere as he’s shopping for second-hand shirts in a store when he notices a woman appearing anxious at an ATM. Upon closer inspection, Reacher deduces that the woman’s child is being used as leverage to force her to withdraw money. Within minutes, he manages to subdue the criminals, saves the kid, and casually continues his clothing purchase, giving no hint of the chaos that just occurred.

In a new encounter, Reacher crosses paths with his old comrade Frances Neagley (Maria Sten). She informs him of a chilling development: individuals are systematically eliminating members from their ex-Army unit. Together, they link up with the remaining pair – the sarcastic lawyer David O’Connell (Shaun Spios) and the accountant Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan). There’s an apparent spark between Reacher and Karla that’s hard to miss.

The team embarks on an investigation targeting a shadowy military weapons organization led by Langston (Robert Patrick). This enigmatic group includes ruthless assassin A.M., portrayed by Fernidad Kingsley, as one of its key players. As the story unfolds, the group’s pursuit for the truth leads them down a violent path, resulting in thrilling action scenes.

As a devoted fan, I must say that Ritchson truly shines in this season, embodying the heroic essence of his character flawlessly through his striking presence. The action sequences are nothing short of spectacular, but it’s when Reacher dons the hat of Sherlock Holmes and exhibits his intelligence that really makes the experience enjoyable. Flashbacks to his military past add an extra layer of depth to the character, bringing him to life in a truly captivating way.

This series maintains an engaging speed, featuring a clear narrative that’s less focused on shocking twists, but still manages effectively. It includes some poignant turns, and the plot isn’t overly complicated, making it easy to follow along. While the ending might come across as abrupt, it remains enjoyable and stays true to the original books, making it a worthwhile viewing experience.
