Re-imagined 80s crime drama confirms return for “thrilling” new season: “Even more twisty than the first”
The crime drama featuring Damien Molony, who was previously seen on “The Split,” has been given the green light for a second season after its impressive premiere.
In simple terms, it was revealed that the updated 1980s detective show “Bergerac” will come back on a streaming service in 2026, and they hinted at making the plot even more intricate than its previous seasons.
In a recent press statement about the show’s revival, Helen Perry, UKTV’s drama commissioning head, expressed her joy: “We’re thrilled to be returning to Jersey for another season of Bergerac. Toby Whithouse and Blacklight TV have done an outstanding job, breathing new life into a cherished classic, making it appealing for modern viewers.

“Damien is mesmerising as Jim, and is matched by Zoë [Wanamaker] and Robert [Gilbert] brilliantly.”
She commented: “It’s exciting to return to the stunning island of Jersey, where we will embark on another gripping exploration. This time, the intrigue promises to be even more complex than before.
In the realm of gaming, crushing it with the first installment catapulted “Bergerac” to the runner-up spot among the highest-rated shows on U&DRAMA, trailing only behind Jo Martin’s “The Marlow Murder Club,” which was the undisputed champion of U&Original dramas in 2025.
Joining Molony in season two is Zoë Wanamaker, who will once again portray the character of Charlie Hungerford, Jim’s mother-in-law. Alongside them, Robert Gilbert has been cast as Barney Crozier.
UKTV hints that the upcoming episode finds Jim working on rebuilding his life after the passing of his wife, as well as dealing with his battles against alcohol addiction.
In the upcoming season, I find myself attempting to rebuild my life, all while my mother-in-law, Charlie Hungerford, seems to have found a new suitor. With a gentle nudge from my daughter, I’ve mustered up the courage to dip my toes back into dating. But then I cross paths with Nicola, a captivating visitor to Jersey. Could this budding connection be the beginning of a beautiful chapter in my life?
Yet, before the relationship has a chance to grow, Jim gets drawn into another major investigation. At a wedding reception on an island, the groom is found dead in his hotel room, sparking suspicion and scrutiny among the attendees. To bring the killer to light, Jim must decipher cryptic final words from the victim’s speech. As he digs deeper, he uncovers hidden secrets, leading to even more revelations, making this case his most complex one so far.
Molony expressed his eagerness about reprising his role in a fresh series, saying: “I can hardly contain my anticipation to delve deeper into the character of Jim Bergerac and discover what mystery we’ll unravel next.
Bergerac is available to stream for free on U.
