Raye to make her movie debut in “bold” and “fresh” London-set crime drama

Raye has quickly become a major force in music, winning seven BRIT Awards and two Ivor Novellos. Now, she’s expanding her talents and making her debut as an actress in a new film.

According to Variety, the singer-songwriter will appear with Isabelle Huppert, who has been nominated for an Academy Award, in Lineage. This new film is directed by Yann Demange, known for his work on Top Boy.

This new crime drama is set in modern, diverse London and follows Tariq after he gets out of prison. The story focuses on his efforts to reconnect with his son, Amine, and build a new life.

Okay, so I’m already hooked! The new show is about Tariq, and it sounds like things are about to get intense. His brother needs help, which drags him right back into the London crime scene he was trying to escape. But it’s not just any crime world – it’s run by his mother, and he’s got to decide where his loyalty lies and whether he can break free from this cycle of violence that’s always been his family’s story.

Joining Raye and Huppert – known for her work in films like Greta and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris – in the upcoming film Lineage are actors Dali Benssalah and Adam Bessa.

What to Read Next

Working on Lineage feels like coming home, honestly. It’s got characters I already feel connected to, including this seriously powerful crime boss – a real matriarch. I’m trying to make it a love letter to London, the city where I grew up, you know? It’s a place I really love and want to show off.

He explained that he wanted the movie to be a thrilling and innovative crime film, but also to delve into the complexities of family and whether people can truly escape their past.

Okay, so I just heard about this movie, Lineage, and apparently it’s something special. The producer, Thomas Benski, was saying it’s a really ambitious film, made with a strong vision from the director. He thinks the director, Demange, has a totally unique style and is one of the best filmmakers working today – and that it’s not just artistically good, but could be a big hit worldwide. Sounds promising!

He also praised the director, whose previous films include ’71 and White Boy Rick, saying he skillfully combines heartfelt moments, fast-paced visuals, and themes that resonate with audiences.

Enda Walsh, the writer behind works like Small Things Like These and Die My Love, is writing the movie’s script. Demange is credited with contributing to the story. It’s currently unclear what role Raye will have in the film, and there’s no news yet on when it will be released.
