Raye breaks down in tears of joy as she receives her first ever Grammy nominations – after winning SIX gongs at this year’s BRIT Awards
As a long-time fan and supporter of Raye, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of joy and admiration for this talented artist. Her journey to success is nothing short of inspiring, and her recent Grammy nominations are yet another testament to her unwavering dedication and resilience.
Raye shared that she wept with happiness upon finding out she was nominated for a Grammy for the very first time.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself in an exhilarating position this year, with my name gracing no less than three coveted categories at the grandest event on the music calendar. The recognition comes in the form of nominations for Best New Artist, Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. It’s an honor to be part of this prestigious lineup, and I can hardly wait to see how it all unfolds.
Raye recently achieved a remarkable feat by winning six awards at the Brit Awards, surpassing the previous record of four wins held by Blur, Adele, and Harry Styles during a single Brits ceremony.
On Instagram, Raye was captured shedding tears upon hearing the news that she’d been nominated [over the phone].
Next to the video, she posted: “Even God understands the effort it took for me to reach this point. I’m overwhelmed, I just can’t hold back my tears.
Raye received an abundance of warm messages, among them came a sweet note from Jade Thirlwall saying: “All the flowers for you, angel.
Mollie King expressed: “Raye truly deserves this! ❤️
Carol Vorderman expressed: “Raye, you’re amazing! It brings joy to this seasoned bird to witness your unwavering commitment and bravery being richly rewarded. Wishing you all the best at the Grammys, lady x.
“S Club member Jo O’Meara commented, ‘Absolutely deserving,’ and ex-Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts agreed, exclaiming, ‘Definitely, definitely, definitely!
This year at the Brit Awards, Raye was the first to receive an award, Song of the Year for her song Escapism featuring 070 Shake. Later in the evening, she also won the awards for Best R&B Act and Best New Artist.
She was in floods of tears as she later accepted Album Of The Year, Artist Of The Year and Songwriter of the Year, bringing her beloved grandmother on stage at one point.
She was put forward for nomination an unprecedented seven times during that particular year, being the artist with the most nominations in a single year. However, it’s important to note that she couldn’t have won more awards than she did, given that she was nominated twice in the category of ‘Song of the Year.’ The songs ‘Escapism,’ which ultimately took the prize, and ‘Prada’ were the ones for which she received these nominations.
Raye was trembling as she approached the stage to receive her first award of the evening. She wasn’t quite sure what words would come out, but managed to express, ‘Thank you. I’ve longed to say that.’
Moments after receiving the award for Best New Artist, the visibly moved star, once a student at the BRIT School in Croydon, exclaimed to the audience: “I can’t believe what’s happening right now!
Raye achieved recent success following her separation from her previous record label, Polydor. Subsequently, she independently published her highly praised debut album, “My 21st Century Blues.” In her acceptance speech for Best New Artist, she acknowledged this fresh start.
I want to express my gratitude to my mom, dad, and grandma who are all a part of my team. Absolutely, grandma! Recently, I’ve been feeling like a budding artist. I released my first song at 15, and my first mixtape at 16 – but I wouldn’t recommend listening to it now as it may not hold up compared to my more recent work.
However, I find myself resembling a fresh artist once more, as I embark on this new journey. The artist I was three years back would be astonished by the sights before me today. Now, I am my own supervisor, commanding my own path. Thank you!
Raye, who hails from Tooting with a mother of Ghanaian-Swiss descent and an English father, first honed her vocal skills in the church choir.
When she turned 14, she got admitted to the Brit School for artistic performances, but left it after spending two years there. She explained her departure by expressing feelings of being restricted or limited.
In 2016, at the age of 19, she gained widespread recognition when she appeared on Jax Jones’s song “You Don’t Know Me.” This track reached number three on the UK singles chart.
However, in 2021, it was disclosed that Polydor Records, whom she had signed with seven years prior, declined to launch any of her albums.
She expressed on Twitter, “I’ve been signed to a four-album contract since 2014 and haven’t been granted the freedom to release an album.
