Ray Winstone, 68, reveals he has semi-retired and spends most of his time in Sicily ‘to rest in the sun’
Ray Winstone has revealed that he has semi-retired and now spends most of his time in Sicily.
The 68-year-old performer openly stated that he primarily seeks relaxation under the sun and only accepts roles when they offer a financial incentive.
In an interview with The Daily Star, he shared: “I frequently travel between here and Sicily. At 68 years old, I wish to bask in the sun… Aren’t I growing older?
Ray mentioned that while he’s not fully retired, there are a couple of other ventures on his list that are yet to be completed.
There are instances when you come across information that leaves you uncertain, yet pressing financial obligations like paying rent demand your attention. So, in such cases, you’ll likely prioritize and address those responsibilities.

During the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, Ray decided to make a significant shift in his professional path, choosing an entirely new career direction.
He began working as a labourer in Sicily after he’s acting work dried up due to the strike.
Ray shared with The Mirror, “I’ve been putting in some manual work and effort lately. A few years back, I injured my back, so I’ve been gradually strengthening it again.
Currently, there’s a writers’ strike ongoing, causing significant disruptions to my game’s content. Consequently, I’ve taken a short break from work. Truth be told, I’ve been relishing this period of relaxation. In simpler terms, I’m embracing the art of doing nothing, and it feels good.
While conversing on the Pound for Pound podcast, Ray shared his delight in embracing the tranquil lifestyle in Italy: “In this place, I often spend evenings up on a hilltop. All that’s visible to me are the twinkling stars above.
At night, I switch off all the lights, and there’s a small television set outside where I enjoy watching TV and having a drink. Right now, I’m spending time here by myself.
Keep this secret, just in case someone approaches and tries to steal from me. I’m carrying a large baseball bat for protection, but the scene is quite tranquil. I enjoy sitting outside where you can only hear the sounds of wildlife.
Ray has reprised his role as Bobby Glass in the next series of Netflix drama The Gentlemen.
