A remarkable Mazda rotary sports car, one of the best examples from their legendary series, is being auctioned off: a 2002 RX-7 Series 8 Spirit R Type A with only 7,303 kilometers (approx. 4,500 miles) on it. Originally sold in Japan and later moved to the UAE, this rare coupe has always been serviced by Mazda and preserves its original factory condition.

This Spirit R model signified the conclusion of the RX-7’s manufacturing phase and is often considered the most coveted among collectors. Among the three Spirit R versions, the Type A stands out as the one tailored primarily for drivers, boasting a five-speed manual transmission, carbon-Kevlar Recaro bucket seats, and a rear seat elimination for additional weight reduction. This particular model is painted Innocent Blue Mica with a black interior, red upholstery on the seats, and original 17-inch forged BBS wheels. Other notable characteristics include a redesigned front bumper, adjustable rear spoiler, red brake calipers, and Spirit R-exclusive badging and gauges.

Hidden within its structure is Mazda’s renowned 13B twin-turbo rotary engine, delivering 206 kW power exclusively to the rear wheels. As one of only 1,044 Type A models crafted, this untouched vehicle offers a scarce chance for collectors eager to own an authentic, low-mileage relic from Japanese automotive history. At present, the auction has four more days remaining for bids, with the highest current bid standing at $45,250 USD.
