Rapper, YouTuber DDG briefly detained in SoCal; possible victim of swatting incident

A well-known YouTuber shared on social media that he had a close call with potential death, as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers pointed their guns at him during an afternoon encounter on Sunday. He believes this was likely due to a case of “swatting,” where someone falsely reports an emergency to authorities.

In a YouTube video, the rapper DDG shared that he found himself at a paintball event in Castaic, only to be encircled by law enforcement officers, along with other participants.

Upon turning back, I found myself facing about half a dozen police vehicles, causing me to think, ‘What’s about to transpire?'” he stated in his post.

According to DDG, he was anticipating that law enforcement would keep him informed about the situation. However, instead, he found himself being detained without any given reason.

A recent video posted online captures the moment at around 6 p.m., where DDG is seen being searched, led to a police vehicle, and subsequently placed inside it.

Incidents prompting massive responses from law enforcement agencies have led to widespread fear at schools, places of worship, and various institutions across the state. However, pursuing legal action against threats in California can often prove challenging.

DDG stated that his friend arrived without any greetings or small talk, not even mentioning they had received a call. He simply said ‘nothing.'”

DDG mentioned that his friend showed up without saying hello or anything else, not even hinting at having a phone call. All he said was ‘nothing’.

He then mimicked the pointing of a gun and said police yelled at him, “Hands in the air!”

DDG mentioned that he had recently finished smoking, which means you have to consider what might be on his mind at the moment, buddy.

He didn’t provide details about what he was inhaling, but he commented, “I kept questioning in my mind, ‘Is this genuine?’

Repeated attempts to reach the Santa Clarita station of the local sheriff’s department went unsuccessful, with no response. Regarding the incident, the department’s primary public relations office reported they had no details to share at that time.

A teenager residing in Lancaster admitted guilt for placing numerous hoax phone calls, each claiming plans for shooting incidents or bomb explosions at various public establishments.

While seated in the back of the sheriff’s car, DDG expressed to the deputies that he thought he was the target of a SWATting incident. This refers to a situation where someone fabricates a report of a crime or emergency to trigger an overzealous police response.

In some of the most severe cases, SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) teams have been dispatched as a response.

While perched in the sheriff’s vehicle, I happened upon some information on an unguarded laptop belonging to the sheriff’s department. It seemed someone had tipped them off about a possible prank call, detailing the specific make of my car. The caller claimed that the rapper, armed and potentially dangerous, was planning self-harm and harming others. I found this troubling information quite unsettling.

DDG said he was held for 20 minutes before being released.

“Enjoy life, life life like there’s no tomorrow,” he said on his stream, “because you never know.”
