Rapper 50 Cent reveals why he ‘turned down $3 million’ to perform at Donald Trump rally in New York City
As a long-time fan of 50 Cent and someone who has followed his career from the early days of “Get Rich or Die Tryin'”, I find it fascinating to see how he navigates the complex world of politics. His life experience, marked by survival, resilience, and success in the face of adversity, gives him a unique perspective on the political landscape.
50 Cent alleges that the Trump presidential campaign proposed a payment of $3 million for him to perform at a rally in Madison Square Garden, an offer which he chose to decline.
The unofficially pro-former president musician stated that he aims to steer clear of political discussions.
On Sunday, I was absolutely thrilled to attend the enormous, contentious rally that President Trump hosted in the heart of New York City, serving as the grand finale for his passionate campaign trail!
50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) shared on The Breakfast Club radio show on 105.1 FM in New York on Tuesday, that he received a call over the weekend and they proposed a $3 million deal to him.
It was uncertain if he actually received a call for the campaign during the 11th hour on Sunday, or simply heard from them earlier – the details were vague.
The hosts inquired whether he would receive payment for appearing at the Republican National Convention in July, to which he indicated affirmatively by nodding. His response was a simple “mmhmm”.
Jackson made it clear that neither discussion about the events went deep, since he had no inclination towards participating or showing up at either political gathering.
He expressed that he tends to steer clear of politics as he finds that once you engage in it, regardless of your personal stance, there’s always someone who strongly opposes your viewpoint.
‘I stay away from religion, I stay away from politics.’
Later on, Jackson drew Kanye West into the discussion by simplifying the numerous offensive anti-Semitic comments made by the other rapper as just being about ‘his religious beliefs’ and ‘political views’.
‘That’s the formula for the confusion that sent Kanye to Japan,’ he said.
He mentioned topics related to religion and politics, and as a result, he’s bound for Japan. I prefer not to delve into such subjects.
Afterward, the radio hosts fooled him by claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris urgently needed the phone, causing them to have to end the call with him.
‘You wanna say hi?’ they said.
‘Why you guys trying to put me into this stuff? I thought we was cool,’ Jackson replied.
He got up to walk away but sat back down when the hosts all laughed and he realized it was a joke.
In the past, Jackson expressed favorable opinions towards Trump; he once commented on an article about the migrant crisis by saying, “Perhaps Trump could be the solution.
In March, he wrote on Twitter, “I believe Trump may regain the presidency, but I won’t express that opinion.
In June, he stated that many African-American men were aligning themselves with Trump due to the fact that they too face RICO charges.
In simpler terms, Jackson’s 2003 song “Many Men” gained prominence among Trump supporters who identify with the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement, as Trump often entered his rallies following the July 13 assassination attempt to this track.
The line from the song could be rephrased as: ‘Many men are hostile towards me. With blood in my eye, I strive to fulfill my predetermined path.’ This version retains the original sentiment while using more conventional language for a broader audience.
The rapper later explained how streaming for Many Men jumped dramatically after the rally.
He advises fighting. Agreed. After being wounded, I switched to a fighting stance. Simply put, I went into a defensive state of mind. This is how others relate to the situation, he added.
In 2020, Jackson nearly showed support for Trump, but only did so prematurely due to a mistaken report suggesting New York City residents might face a 62% tax rate under President Joe Biden.
‘WHAT THE F**K! (VOTE ForTRUMP) IM OUT. F**K NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway. I don’t care Trump doesn’t like black people 62% are you out of ya f**king mind,’ he wrote at the time.
‘I don’t wanna be 20cent.’
After consulting with Chelsea Handler, his former girlfriend, Jackson eventually acknowledged his mistake and withdrew his support about two weeks after that.
F**k Donald Trump, I never liked him. For all I know he had me set up and had my friend Angel Fernandez killed but that’s history. LOL,’ he wrote.
