Rapper Lil Baby from Atlanta has announced his new project, The Leaks, will be released on December 3rd – his birthday. The collection features previously leaked songs and tracks that have been previewed but never officially released. Originally planned for late summer, the release was delayed, but now fans can expect it in December.
So, Lil Baby’s been building up the hype for this new release for a while now. He’s been dropping singles pretty consistently, especially with his ‘WHAM Wednesdays’ – basically, a new track every Wednesday. If you’ve been keeping up, you’ve probably heard at least some of the six songs he’s released over the last month or so.
We’ve been getting a lot of new music lately, which is great, but more isn’t always better. Plus, it’s been a while since Baby released a truly standout song. Now that a new project is coming soon, let’s take a look at the pre-release tracks and see how they measure up. Here’s a ranking, from least to most impressive.
Here’s where Lil Baby’s new singles stand
6. Real S**t
This track is pretty typical Lil Baby – it doesn’t really stand out. The beat is very simple, with just a few quiet strings, and Baby’s rapping feels a bit effortless and uninspired. It’s okay to listen to, but there’s nothing memorable about it.
5. Otha Boy
“Otha Boy” is okay, but it feels like it could have been much better. The production – a hard-hitting, atmospheric trap beat – is a definite highlight. However, Baby’s vocals don’t quite match the quality of the instrumental; while he has energy, his delivery isn’t always precise. Ultimately, the song relies heavily on the strength of the beat to carry it through.
4. Middle of the Summer
Okay, so Lil Baby’s opening line about still being cold just feels…off, especially since it’s summer. It would’ve hit way harder if this song dropped back when people were actually freezing! Honestly, though, I really dig his flow – it’s super smooth and controlled. It’s maybe a little too laid-back for a beat with so many horns, but it still works. And the beat itself is solid, I’m not gonna lie.
3. Try To Love
This song tries a mellow, romantic trap sound, which isn’t usually Lil Baby’s style, but it actually works surprisingly well. The beat is great, the catchy, altered hook is effective, and Baby’s rapping fits the song’s mood, even if it’s not a perfect match for his usual flow.
2. All On Me
“All On Me” is a consistently strong track. Lil Baby delivers one of his best, most focused rap verses lately. The addition of G Herbo in the second half is a great touch, and the beat is perfect for thoughtful listening, featuring a familiar sample from Heather Headley’s “In My Mind.”
1. Plenty
YTB Fatt, YFN Lucci, and Baby each deliver strong and varied verses, showcasing their individual styles. The song’s instrumental features a particularly catchy and unusual looped melody. Overall, it’s a really enjoyable collaboration that’s sure to get you moving.
