Ranked rollback system is coming to League of Legends in 2025

In the opening months of the year, League of Legends (LoL) will introduce its new ranked rollback system. This means that if you lose a match against a cheater, your League Points (LP) will automatically be returned to you.

If you’re contemplating using a fresh trick to enhance your League of Legends profile, you might want to reconsider. Players who have experienced the negative impact of cheaters in their game will now receive a Vanguard LP Refund. The ranked rollback system, which was introduced on VALORANT last year, is about to be implemented in League of Legends as well.

Based on leaks about League of Legends, it appears that players will receive League Points (LP) as a form of compensation for lost time. This is mentioned in a screenshot posted by the page. The implementation of this new policy is anticipated in the first quarter of 2025, which falls within the period up to March. It’s important to note that this update will occur prior to the second season of the year.

Rollback system in League of Legends

The Vanguard system is a security measure created by Riot Games, primarily intended for identifying and preventing cheaters. Originally implemented only in VALORANT, it has since been expanded to League of Legends as well, last year. Due to its effectiveness in VALORANT and the need to maintain a fair player experience, we decided transferring this software was appropriate for League of Legends as well.

2024 saw VALORANT implementing the ranked rollback feature to safeguard players who unjustly had a cheater on their team and also to reimburse them for the wasted time. When a cheater is spotted, a red screen appears and later, your Ranked Rating (RR) is restored. In League of Legends, with the introduction of the rollback system, if a cheater is detected in a game, your League Points (LP) will be reinstated instead.

Community feedback

Some gamers seized the moment to inform Riot Games of various issues they encountered, such as players who go AFK, server connection glitches, smurf accounts, and those intentionally ruining games. Some expressed appreciation for the action, acknowledging it took 15 years but better late than never. Meanwhile, another gamer inquired about the possibility of MMR (Match Making Rating) refunds, a topic that remains shrouded in mystery at this time.

Generally speaking, the community appears to be positively responding to this news. Having players who break the rules by cheating or avoiding their turns in games can negatively impact both one’s desire to continue playing and the quality of their gameplay.
