Ralph Fiennes shares first plot details for 28 Years Later trilogy
As a die-hard fan of post-apocalyptic films, I can barely contain my excitement for the upcoming trilogy, “28 Years Later.” Having grown up watching Danny Boyle’s masterpiece, “28 Days Later,” I was ecstatic when I heard about this follow-up. The fact that Ralph Fiennes has joined Cillian Murphy in this journey is just icing on the cake.
Ralph Fiennes shares some details about the development of his character, the “good doctor,” in the eagerly awaited 28 Years Later trilogy directed by Danny Boyle.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel to the chilling 2002 horror game based on Boyle’s rage virus outbreak! This thrilling continuation is set to unfold in three captivating chapters. In this new installment, I’ll be joining forces once more with Cillian Murphy, who brilliantly reprises his role as the indomitable character Jim.
In the trilogy, the first movie is led by director Boyle. The second film, titled “28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple“, is managed by Nia DaCosta, who’s also known for “Candyman“. The entire series’ scripts were written by returning screenwriter Alex Garland, with Boyle overseeing the production of the trilogy as a whole.
In a recent chat, Fiennes revealed that production on two out of three films is now wrapped up, and he portrayed his character as a “compassionate physician” assisting the main character.
“It’s three films, of which two have been shot,“ he told IndieWire.
Britain has been grappling with a devastating outbreak of violent, rabid individuals for the past 28 years, amidst scattered pockets of unaffected populations.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “I embark on a journey, where I play a young boy in search of a healer for my ailing mother. Together we traverse breathtaking northern English landscapes, but danger lurks unseen in forests, hills, and woods – the infected, waiting to pounce.
However, he encounters a doctor who may seem peculiar or strange at first glance, but in reality, turns out to be a beneficial presence.
Additionally, in this new chapter, we have stars such as Jodie Comer from “Killing Eve,” Aaron Taylor-Johnson known for his role as “Kraven the Hunter,” and Jack O’Connell who made a name with “Back to Black.
28 Years Later follows a first sequel in the post-apocalyptic saga.
2007 saw the release of “28 Weeks Later”, a film that unfolds seven months following a lethal virus outbreak, focusing on siblings Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton) who find themselves admitted to a secure refuge in London.
28 Years Later is released in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
