As a lifelong music enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless bands, I must admit that the news of Rage Against the Machine’s retirement hits me hard. Growing up, their music was a powerful force that resonated deeply with my own beliefs and struggles. Their blend of political activism, heavy metal, and rap was like a musical manifesto for the disenfranchised, and their live performances were nothing short of electrifying.
On the day leading up to the U.S. presidential election, Tom Morello, a member of Rage Against the Machine, dedicated his time to engaging with internet trolls on platform X who falsely claimed that he had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Throughout the day, Morello consistently refuted these accusations.
The 60-year-old socialist shared his experience of serving as a scheduling secretary for Democratic U.S. Senator Alan Cranston from 1987 to 1988, during which time he witnessed directly the influence and corruptive power that wealthy elites exercise over politics and policy-making.
Tom, with over 4.6 million social media followers, declared on Monday that when it comes to this subject, no one is more vigilant than him. In his tweet, he asserted that both Democrats and Republicans have been accused of being war criminals.
“I consistently vote despite the attempts by racists and the ruling class to discourage me, as I firmly believe that genuine transformation originates from building an unstoppable groundswell of action – advocating and struggling prior to, during, and after elections at the community level. This approach doesn’t rely solely on hoping for change from the elites or pleading for scraps; instead, it empowers us to create our own opportunities.
‘I’ve only ever publicly or privately endorsed one candidate, and that is Cindy Sheehan, an outspoken anti-war activist. Tragically, her son was killed during the Iraq War. I admire her greatly, she’s a real trailblazer. Please share this with those who might not be fully informed about her, as some may hold similar views to you.’

The user @robbystarbuck commented: “Aren’t you supporting Kamala Harris in your vote? If that’s the case, you’re backing the same candidate as Dick Cheney. But if you aren’t, I’ll take back my post and acknowledge my mistake.
Morello clapped back: ‘Delete your post, apology accepted.’
When the user @hexagong tweeted “You endorsed her, bro,” the two-time Grammy winner countered with: “Strike out!” or “Fumbled it!
When user @bannedbybiden labeled Tom as a ‘SOROS Stooge’, he quipped back playfully, “I miss him! I still haven’t received my long-overdue payment!
Morello’s Twitter outburst started with him criticizing self-proclaimed fans who, similar to Paul Ryan, distort the meanings of Rage Against the Machine songs such as ‘Killing in the Name’ and ‘War Machine’.
As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur reflecting on past events, let me share with you that during the 2022 Public Service Announcement Tour, I found myself at the helm of my band, fending off allegations suggesting we mandated vaccinations for our audience members. However, the truth was far from it.
Tom posted on Twitter, “Absolutely not, vaccinations were never a necessity for anyone attending or purchasing tickets to any RATM concert.
Don’t hesitate to verify with any of the many people who were there. It’s possible that, influenced by assumptions and incorrect information, some of your deeply held beliefs and views might be founded on complete untruths.

Despite expectations, Brad Wilk, the drummer from RATM, officially declared on January 3rd that the band will no longer be performing live or going on tour. I apologize to those of you who were looking forward to this, as I genuinely wish it could have been different.
This, only two months after RATM were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
25th of September saw Morello being recognized in Oklahoma with the 2024 Woody Guthrie Award. This recognition was bestowed upon him for his enduring dedication to employing his artistic talents and influence to advance causes such as social justice, human rights, and activism.
