Radio stars ‘shaken’ by shock axing of KIIS FM presenter Mitch Churi – as many fear they could be next

Last week, KIIS FM host Mitch Churi became emotional when he announced his termination from the network, and this decision has had a substantial impact on the spirits within ARN.

The unexpected dismissal of the popular radio personality has reportedly caused ripples among the employees at ARN, now known as the Australian Radio Network (formerly the KIIS stations), leading some to ponder about the stability of their positions within the network.

According to a source, the departure of Mitch has sent ripples throughout the entire organization. It seems that his coworkers are still trying to understand just how central his role was in shaping the company’s culture.

‘No one is safe. Mitch’s shows being cancelled is a stark reminder the industry is dying. 

If our homegrown talent within ARN continues to be dismissed in such a manner, it leaves little optimism for the future development of the field.

It was mentioned that ARN might have let go of the high-earning actor to secure finances necessary for Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, who are under a $20 million 10-year contract.

Mitch declined to comment to Daily Mail Australia when contacted about the issue.

In the course of the past few days, I’ve been privy to whispers within the radio industry circles suggesting that ARN may have let go of Churi, potentially due to the contractual obligations of Kyle and Jackie O.

Craig Bruce, a former radio executive, expressed this sentiment during his Game Changers Radio: Melbourne Radio Wars podcast: ‘It’s quite clear when viewed solely from a financial standpoint.’

‘Suppose Mitch earns $100,000 a year. ARN might think, “We have a breakfast show for the next 10 years on KIIS and a drive show too, so why would we invest in a night talent if it doesn’t bring us any return?”‘

Bruce confessed: “Had I been in that room, I would have supported the decision to let Churi go. With our current situation and financial status, I can’t rationalize that salary at this point, especially given that we’re only planning on having one or two shows.

In the year 2019, Mitch, a regular co-host of The Pick Up drive time show with Laura and Brittany, shared some distressing personal news on-air, causing him to become visibly emotional. He broke this sad news to his fellow hosts.

Laura expressed, “This isn’t part of our plans for the performance. Unfortunately, it’s something beyond our influence that necessitated this change. Britt and I must carry on with the show in your absence, and we’re deeply saddened by it.

‘You are not only our co-host, but also one of our best friends,’ Brittany chipped in.

Lucky for me and all his devoted fans, Mitch won’t be signing off any time soon! He’ll still be with us on the radio until the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. I can hardly contain my excitement!
