Radio star Sami Lukis reveals the surprising household item she always takes travelling

As a dedicated follower of Sami Lukis and someone who has traveled extensively, I can truly appreciate her clever travel hacks. Her tip about taking a small ziplock bag filled with washing powder is a game-changer for anyone who wants to keep their delicates clean on the go.

Sami Lukis has revealed the one surprising household item she always takes on holiday with her.

As a seasoned traveler and radio personality at the age of 54, I’ve had my fair share of adventures around the world. I’ve picked up some valuable tips along the way that I can’t wait to share with you. One unexpected item I always pack in my carry-on is a small pouch of essential oils. The scents can help me relax during long flights, and they add a familiar touch to my hotel room. Plus, they take up almost no space! So if you want to make your travels more enjoyable, consider bringing along a little aromatherapy.

Sami carries a compact zipper pouch containing washing powder for cleaning delicate items in her hotel sink.

During her unexpected journey, Sami shared with 9Travel her experience: “Reaching a new place, you might not come across a laundromat or a grocery store. And even if you do, purchasing a whole box of detergent could be necessary.”

As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but share this simple yet effective tip: If you bring along a small packet of washing powder from home, you can easily clean your delicates and undies in the sink within the comfort of your hotel room.

Based on my extensive travel experiences, I strongly advise bringing earplugs along when planning a trip. Trust me, there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to get some rest during a long flight or in a noisy hotel room. And speaking from experience, rolling your clothes instead of folding them is an excellent space-saving hack. This little trick can make a huge difference when it comes to fitting more items into your luggage without overloading it. So, don’t forget to pack those earplugs and roll your clothes for a more efficient and comfortable travel experience!

Last week, while on her trips, Sami encountered a worldwide IT disruption that caused her flight from Orlando to be delayed, resulting in much inconvenience.

In the aftermath of Microsoft’s major disruption, numerous flights across the US experienced delays or cancellations.

On Fridays, Sami described the confusion at Orlando International Airport in detail. She acknowledged that it was an unfortunate day for travel via her updates on X, previously called Twitter.

I’ve been there myself, stuck at Orlando airport with a flight to catch and feeling utterly clueless about what was going on around me. The hustle and bustle of activity on the tarmac seemed to have come to a standstill, leaving me stranded in a sea of uncertainty. It’s an experience that leaves you feeling powerless and frustrated, as if time itself has come to a standstill. But even in these moments, I’ve learned to take a deep breath, trust that things will eventually sort themselves out, and make the best use of my waiting time by observing my fellow travelers or catching up on some reading. After all, every journey, no matter how long or short, is an opportunity for growth and new experiences.

‘Some flight cancelled. Some flights are boarding. Most are showing as delayed. For now.’

Later on, Sami verified that flights were commencing to load, following the power failure which led to disorderly situations at airports worldwide.

She expressed that boards are being called for flights at Orlando airport, let’s cross our fingers and hope that any issues will be resolved before takeoff.

Almost every corner of the global economy feels the impact when Windows, the world’s most widely-used operating system, experiences an interruption.

A glitch in the recent update from CrowdStrike affected Windows software, resulting in unexpected shutdowns. Consequently, departure monitors at various airports were left blank.

At Los Angeles International Airport and various airports in Spain, passengers responded to the IT malfunction with unprecedented scenes: they slept in the corridors, while long lines snaked through the terminals. In Delhi, airport personnel took the unconventional step of using a whiteboard to keep track of departures.

Australian retail stores closed their doors or adopted a cashless policy following digital checkout malfunctions. Meanwhile, emergency hotlines experienced interruptions in Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Ohio, USA.

Travelers encountered significant disruptions in their plans after the power failure, with numerous flights getting canceled or postponed due to a massive pile-up of schedule adjustments.
