Radio One DJ Andy Kershaw has revealed he is battling cancer that has left him ‘unable to walk’

The DJ and presenter, 66, said doctors discovered tumours in his spine last August.

He joked: ‘I am in good spirits, feeling very positive and planning another podcast.

I’ve decided I need to outlive Benjamin Netanyahu, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Ant & Dec. Knowing they’re still around should give me plenty of motivation to stay healthy for a good long time.

Andy has been undergoing treatment, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, physiotherapy. 

Andy recently shared with The Sun that he hasn’t released any new podcasts for the past six months, but he’s incredibly thankful for the continued support of his listeners.

He started his career at Radio Aire in Leeds, working in promotions and famously giving Carol Vorderman her very first job in broadcasting.

He hosted the popular BBC music show, The Old Grey Whistle Test, starting in 1984, and later co-hosted the BBC’s TV coverage of the Live Aid concert.

He was later hired by Radio 1 as a successor to the late DJ John Peel.

Andy was a widely travelled journalist who covered both conflicts and music. He frequently contributed to Radio 4 and reported from the ground during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.

He had a 17-year relationship with Juliette Banner and they share two children together..

The couple moved to the Isle of Man together but they later split up.
