Radio industry in shock as major KIIS FM star left 'shattered and completely blindsided' after being punted from the network

As a seasoned radio listener and industry observer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent shakeups at KIIS FM are nothing short of intriguing. Mitch Churi’s departure, allegedly for financial reasons, comes as a surprise, especially considering his popularity and the unique chemistry he brought to The Night Show and The Pick Up.

This week, KIIS FM is grappling with the news that a prominent figure may have been dismissed by the network, according to recent reports.

Mitch Churi will finish up at the end of the year, the Daily Telegraph claimed on Tuesday.

Since 2019, he has been the main host for “The Night Show” featuring Mitch Churi, and currently co-hosts “The Pick Up” alongside Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne.

The report suggests that the decision was based on financial issues, and it appears Mitch learned about this unfortunate news on Tuesday, as he hasn’t been on the air since then.

The article reported that Mitch appears to be deeply shocked and taken aback, according to a fellow broadcaster who spoke about him.

It’s reported that the recent news has left KIIS FM star Kyle Sandilands quite surprised, and the future of Hockley and Byrne’s program is now uncertain.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to KIIS FM for comment.

Following the announcement, Kyle Sandilands plans to tone down explicit sexual content on his KIIS FM radio program starting next year to cater to the preferences of listeners in Melbourne.

In the seventh round of GFK radio ratings, the audience for the Kyle & Jackie O show in Melbourne experienced a slight decrease this week.

In the Breakfast timeframe, they are located in the eighth spot and hold a 5.1% audience share. However, they fell significantly behind Nova’s Jase and Lauren, as well as Triple M and ABC Melbourne.

To create an impact in Melbourne, ARN’s Chief Content Officer, Duncan Campbell, suggests that Sandilands should tone down his explicit and inappropriate comments during airtime.

‘The sexual content was really a small part of the show,’ he told Mumbrella.

‘Because it was graphic, it grabbed everyone’s attention – but [Kyle’s] taken that off, really.’

‘It’s still sexual content. But not the graphic sexual content that it once was.’

Campbell further explained to the media outlet that Sandilands had a willingness to reduce the explicit nature of his content during their discussions.

‘He agreed to do that, which was a real positive,’ he added.

‘And, I mean, he wants to win in Melbourne. There’s no doubt about that.’

Elsewhere, the CCO also promised their marketing tactics will be ‘less brash and unapologetic’.

He mentioned that after taking out the explicit sexual content, the show is significantly more pleasant to watch now, he added.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kyle Sandilands for comment.

In Sydney, Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson have retained their number one spot during the breakfast hours, even with a slight dip in audience share down to 13.1%.

The duo, Jonesy and Amanda on WSFM, have moved up to become the second most popular morning radio program in Sydney, capturing an audience share of 11.3%.

In the radio battles of Melbourne, Jase & Lauren from Nova 100 managed to outperform Kyle and Jackie O by securing a 11% audience share.

In Melbourne, Fifi, Fev & Nick, who were previously at the top, secured the second position on The Fox, attracting approximately 10.2% of the viewers.
