Radio Host Apologizes to Miley Cyrus for Coughing and Awkward Zoom Moment

In recently unearthed footage, dating back to when Mitch used to host KIIS FM radio, and resurfaced on Tuesday, we find Mitch engaging in some amusing behavior. Unbeknownst to him, Miley was already on a Zoom call, allowing her to observe and hear as he coughed, sneezed, and accidentally took a screenshot while not realizing she was there.

Mitch apologized publicly to Miley Cyrus for accidentally letting her into a Zoom interview prematurely, as seen in the clip that he posted and has garnered over 392,000 likes on TikTok.

In an uncomfortably filmed scene, the triple Grammy winner remains poised, adorned elegantly, and flashes a wide grin as she readies herself for the upcoming interview, which will be broadcast later.

Mitch captures the chat, keeping the audio active, causing the ‘Hello?’ question from the Flowers Singer.

As he acknowledges his mistake, a flush spreads across his face. He exclaims cheerily, “Oh, there you are! Wonderful to see you! How’s it going this fine morning?

 ‘She was there for three minutes and didn’t say a thing,’ Mitch reflected in horror. 

As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but share my extraordinary experience. It seems that the tale is gaining traction, and yes, I had a momentary coughing fit. With wide-eyed wonder and an open mouth, I found myself in the presence of Miley Cyrus. This is how I described it in a subsequent TikTok post.

Miley joined the video call using a pseudonym, which made me unaware it was her. That’s why I coughed like a toddler during the call. People are curious about the screenshot; it was a Snapchat sent to our family group chat, with “Miley soon!” as the message.

‘And she was there watching. And I was sick.

Note this, Miley sent me a direct message on Instagram following her laugh over the situation. She didn’t take offense, instead, she found it amusing.

Years back, during my evening radio broadcast, I conducted numerous intriguing interviews as the host of a long-running talk show in Australia. To be honest, this particular conversation wasn’t the most challenging one I’ve had.

After being abruptly let go from his hosting position at KIIS FM in November, Mitch made a one-time guest appearance on Nova, switching over to their radio station.

Mitch warmly invited Miley Cyrus into his extra bedroom, mentioning that she’d find her personal Barbie collection and an assortment of records in there, which were all hers. (Mitch said, “Welcome to your room, Miley Cyrus,” with Miley sharing that her Barbie dolls and record collection could be found in her very own room.)

‘This is nostalgic heaven, I’m really into it,’ Miley said. 

‘Self expression is the most valuable thing in a relationship, so slay.’ 

Mitch declared during a broadcast in November that KIIS FM management had told him they wouldn’t renew his contract, causing a stir throughout the entire network.

In January, he managed to make a single guest appearance on competing station Nova, subtly criticizing his previous employer. During this appearance, he hinted that he would be bringing many of his famous friends to boost their competition.

After spending nearly a decade hosting shows every day, these past five weeks without being on-air feel incredibly long.

As a die-hard fan, I’m eagerly waiting to see if the magic he created during his morning stint on Nova will lead to a long-term deal. It’s no secret that this station has a history of giving a second chance to those talent from KIIS FM who found themselves on the chopping block.

In 2023, radio personalities Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips were unexpectedly let go from their KIIS FM Melbourne breakfast show to allow Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson to extend their $100 million operation into the city.

Nevertheless, Jase, age 42, and Lauren, age 41, triumphantly enjoyed the final chuckle as their program was selected by Nova 100 and surpassed The Kyle and Jackie O Show in ratings within Melbourne.
