Radio Guest’s Cancer News Leaves Carrie Bickmore Speechless!
On Wednesday, I had a guest on my Hit Network radio show who shared their personal struggle, which resonated deeply with me due to its profound similarities to my own experiences.
On my favorite radio program, I was privileged to hear Professor Richard Scolyer, Australia’s distinguished Year recipient, as he shared insights about his personal journey with brain cancer during his appearance on Carrie & Tommy’s show.
The 58-year-old became teary-eyed as he shared with Carrie that his cancer had progressed, leaving him uncertain about the remaining days ahead.
‘I haven’t given up. There’re still opportunities out there,’ Scolyer told a moved Carrie.
It mirrors a common experience for many, including myself. Just being here and having this discussion with all of you offers me a glimmer of optimism.
Hey there! As a die-hard fan of all things celebrity, I can’t imagine missing out on the latest A-list scandals, red carpet blunders, and every viral moment that sweeps the internet. Scolyer added however that he understands it’s a race against time.
He mentioned that the recent scan indicating a recurrence was quite significant, as it had been over a year since his last imaging examination.
75 out of every 100 individuals pass away within a year after receiving their diagnosis, which is around the 18-month mark. Given that timeframe approaching, I found myself feeling somewhat distinct.
For Carrie, this subject holds significant importance as she sadly lost her husband Greg Lange (on the right) in 2010 due to brain cancer at the young age of 35, following a decade-long struggle.
In 2015, during her Gold Logie acceptance speech, she initiated a charitable organization named Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, following the tradition established by the previous benefactor.
On Tuesday evening, under a shower of confetti, Carrie was warmly received as she returned to The Project while advocating for the charity.
The popular TV and radio personality, who left Channel Ten in 2022, went back to her familiar territory to support a worthy cause.
I had the opportunity to grace the show’s desk for a brief 10-minute segment towards its conclusion, not as a host, but as a valued guest instead.

She attended the event to mark the two-year milestone of Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, a charitable foundation she established, that has amassed $24 million towards cancer research.
Audience members expressed joy upon her return, as one posted online: “What a throwback! When The Project was at its best, entertaining, amusing, and well-received.
Another person watching at home chimed in: ‘Just like old times’.
Carrie announced her departure from The Project after 12 years on air in October, 2022.
Previously, she took a three-month break, spending time with her family in London, during which she was away. In July, she came back to her role on the panel, but then decided to leave in October.
15 weeks following her departure from the program, Carrie disclosed that she had parted ways with her longtime companion, Chris Walker, after eleven years together.
She expressed, through an Instagram post, that Chris and herself had made the difficult decision to part ways, filled with deep sorrow.

During these challenging times, our primary concern revolves around nurturing, caring for, and providing all the love and support we can to our treasured trio: Ollie, Evie, and Addie.
‘They are doing great. We won’t be making any further comment.’
Carrie is now the host of the Carrie & Tommy show on the Hit Network alongside Little.
Their radio show has dominated the national ratings survey last year.
