Rachel Zoe says she ‘fooled around’ with a model a day before ex Rodger Berman proposed to her

Rachel Zoe recently opened up about the beginning of her relationship with Rodger Berman, sharing details after their breakup in 2024 following 33 years as a couple.

The 54-year-old fashion designer recalled the day her now-ex-husband, 57, proposed to her while talking about their divorce on Thursday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Zoe remembered that Berman proposed to her only a day after she confessed to having a casual encounter with a model.

Zoe told Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley over dinner that she began a relationship with the model four years into her romance with Berman.

The fashion designer, who shares two sons – Skyler, 14, and Kaius, 12 – with her former partner, said she was completely captivated by the model, calling her ‘the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.’ She explained she told Berman about it because she felt deeply sympathetic.

She told me she had a casual encounter with someone, and incredibly, he proposed to her the very next day. She insisted she was telling the truth.

Zoe then recalled the moment that led her to being ‘done’ with Berman.

She explained that after whatever caused the injury, she collapsed. She vividly remembers finding herself on the ground.

She mentioned they had a major argument. When her colleagues asked how she learned about Berman’s actions, she simply said, ‘He told me himself.’

She remembered returning from designer Brian Atwood’s birthday party when she received a phone call from Berman, who was in Aspen at the time.

I was so angry I immediately ended the call. Over the years, people have always wanted to know what made us successful, and my first answer was always trust. But once that trust is gone, it’s impossible to get back.

She explained that, throughout their marriage, she never once checked her husband’s phone. She hadn’t even considered it, or even talked about the idea.

Zoe also said people have asked whether Berman told her ‘because he wanted to hurt’ her.

‘You don’t think he told you because he felt guilty?’ Kemsley asked.

I trust him completely – he’s never been dishonest with me. That’s a big part of why this is so hard. I also think he’s testing me, seeing if I still care, even a little. But once you know something like this, you can’t take it back. I can’t pretend I didn’t hear, see, or understand what happened.

Zoe explained that Berman used to be very confident, but his self-assurance declined over the final six or seven years of their marriage.

He was incredibly confident and never seemed bothered by the attention his wife received while working with famous male celebrities and models. People often questioned him, asking how he could allow her to be around so many men who were clearly attracted to her. He’d simply say he wasn’t concerned, implying if someone was good enough to win her over, she was free to explore that. This approach worked, and I remained faithful to him.

Zoe acknowledged she and guys would playfully flirt with each other, but she insisted it didn’t mean anything serious.

The star, who tied the knot with Berman in 1996, initially announced their split in September 2024.

In a previous episode Zoe recalled the ‘insane’ moment that led to her filing for divorce.

Zoe shared with Erika Jayne that her ex unexpectedly showed up to introduce their sons to his new girlfriend, though she didn’t mention the girlfriend’s name.

Recently, Berman has been seen getting close to Bree Jacoby, sparking relationship rumors. This came just four months after his breakup with Zoe.

Her kids were getting ready to leave for camp, and the TV personality also mentioned, ‘She’s never even met them.’

Just as my kids were about to leave for camp, my ex-wife unexpectedly showed up. It was shocking – she just appeared and said hello to our sons. I was completely stunned.

During a confessional, Zoe revealed that she had officially filed for divorce that same day.

It wasn’t any single event, just the accumulation of things,” she explained, describing what led her to decide to get a divorce.

A series of really poor choices – over the past month, weeks, and even the last hour – is finally pushing me to take action.

The mom-of-two and Berman did not sign a prenup before marrying.

I’ve always noticed a shift in Kyle and Erika’s friendship, and Kyle actually talked about it on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She explained that things just weren’t the same between them after they both became moms. It’s sad, but it’s like our priorities change, and sometimes friendships evolve too.

She told Kathy Hilton that they’d simply grown apart and become different people over time.
