Rachel Zegler’s Evita Role Sparks Madonna’s Anger!
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can share an enchanting tale about Snow White – a young woman who found herself in a deep sleep due to a potent potion. However, her story took a magical turn when her true love bestowed upon her the power of life through a tender kiss. This gesture awakened her from her slumber, granting her a second chance at life.
However, a transformation more extraordinary than a deep love from a prince might be needed to restore the glamour of Disney actress Rachel Zegler’s career, which has faced some setbacks.
Following her groundbreaking appearance in the critically panned live-action adaptation of Disney’s Snow White, Zegler, at 23 years old, has been cast as a legendary character.
And the casting is said to have already sparked the ire of one major Hollywood idol.
According to recent announcements, Monica Zegler will take on the role of Eva Perón in director Jamie Lloyd’s upcoming revival of the musical ‘Evita’ at the London Palladium this summer. This production is a tribute to Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice’s original 1978 staging.
The narrative recounts the transformation from poverty to wealth of Argentina’s First Lady – married to the powerful president Juan Perón. Instead, Eva set aside her acting profession to be revered as a national idol by some and vilified for serving as the voice of her husband’s controversial fascist administration.

However, it appears that Madonna, the iconic singer-actress at 66 years old, known for initially portraying Eva’s tale on the big screen in the 1996 film ‘Evita’, finds Zegler’s casting choice discordant.
According to a trusted insider speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, Madonna has consistently felt a strong bond with the character of Evita, a role that held great significance for her. Notably, Madonna has openly expressed her support for Rachel taking on the part that Madonna herself had made famous.
According to the source, Madonna has picked up on some talk regarding Rachel. Although Madonna is known for being bold and provocative, she has always ensured that her actions don’t cross the line into disrespect. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Madonna doesn’t have a positive personal opinion of Rachel.
It’s whispered that the famous singer known for “Like a Virgin” holds a disapproval towards Zegler, primarily because she didn’t credit Madonna for her groundbreaking performance in ‘Evita’, a role which earned Madonna a Best Actress Golden Globe.
In the statement she made last month, Zegler neglected to mention her well-known predecessor by name.
Since I was a child, my father and I often sang “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from the Evita musical on our back porch, making it a significant piece of music in my life.
Indeed, it was Madonna’s version of the song – first created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice back in 1976 – that made the tale of Eva Perón familiar to a fresh wave of admirers.
One memorable moment in the 1996 film is when Madonna sings “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from a balcony at the grand residence known as Casa Rosada, which was once home to the Peróns.
The source stated that she felt somewhat offended because Rachel didn’t recognize that she was the one who sang ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ as a kid.
“She didn’t admit to being influenced by Madonna. In fact, she doubts Rachel would have known about Evita without her. Madonna believes that her Evita movie will always be relevant, and it stands among her most significant achievements.
Representatives for Zegler and Madonna did not respond to requests for comment on these claims.
Madonna has made no secret of how much the role meant to her.
In 1994, when Michelle Pfeiffer declined the offer due to being pregnant with her second child, she penned a four-page letter to director Alan Parker, expressing her conviction that she was the ideal candidate to embody the female leader in the movie.

To demonstrate her abilities, Madonna traveled to Buenos Aires aiming to follow in Eva’s footsteps. She also sought vocal coaching, apparently discovering a higher range in her voice that she wasn’t previously aware of.
Eva found herself at odds with Lloyd Weber’s representation, asserting that it held a distinctly male-biased perspective.
She later claimed: ‘I am prouder of Evita than anything else I have done.’
It’s not surprising if she perceives herself as a guardian or protector of sorts, regarding ‘Evita’ and any interpretations made about it.
However, it’s not just Madonna who is questioning Zegler’s casting; there were earlier suspicions that West Side Story co-star Ariana DeBose, aged 34 at the time, might have been chosen instead.
As a lifestyle expert, I find Rachel Zegler’s vocals captivating, yet I must admit that I ponder if her acting abilities are equally compelling for the role at hand. So far, her performances haven’t shown me any signs that would indicate she has the acting range required for this part.
An additional comment was made: ‘I can’t figure out how this woman excels in everything. For instance, her singing skills are exceptional, but her acting abilities and overall personality leave much to be desired.’
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but feel the weight of anticipation that trails the debates surrounding the production of “Snow White,” a venture that carried an estimated cost of $270 million prior to its marketing and distribution.
The upcoming “Snow White” remake produced by Disney is projected to result in a $115 million loss. This modernized adaptation boasts CGI dwarves and portrays the soon-to-be princess as a feminist figure, who actively plans to depose the malevolent Queen, played by Gal Gadot.
Due to poor ticket sales, Disney has temporarily halted plans for a live-action adaptation of the 2010 version of ‘Tangled,’ which is their take on the fairy tale character Rapunzel.
Zegler has faced the main part of the criticism following her vocal expression of progressive opinions, which gained significant attention.
She once described the original 1937 Snow White film as ‘weird’ and called the prince ‘a stalker.’
In the days after the movie trailer’s launch in August 2024, Zegler encouraged fans with the message, “Never forget, support Palestine.” Several months later, following Donald Trump’s election win, she expressed her disapproval by saying, “May supporters of Trump… never experience peace,” and shared this sentiment on Instagram.
Instead of attending a traditional Hollywood red-carpet premiere, movie executives opted for a low-key event held at a secluded Spanish castle in March, due to concerns about potential boycotts by fans.
Zegler was the only member of the main cast in attendance.
But even without the backlash, sources suggest impressing Madonna would have been a difficult task.
It was mentioned that Madonna would find fault with anyone taking on the role, as she thinks no one could play Evita as effectively as she did; in her opinion, everyone else would come up short.
