Rachel Zegler gushes about feeling ‘held’ by co-star Kit Connor in Romeo + Juliet performance

As an ardent theater enthusiast with a soft spot for timeless tales of love and tragedy, I can’t help but be thrilled by the news of Rachel Zegler and Josh Andrés Rivera making their Broadway debuts as Juliet and Romeo, respectively, in the highly anticipated production of Romeo + Juliet.

In a joint promotion for their upcoming Broadway performance, Rachel Zegler commended her co-star Kit Connor in simple, heartfelt terms for their work together in Romeo & Juliet.

The pair take on the roles of the doomed lovers in the updated version of the classic tragedy, performed at the Circle In The Square theatre.

In a shared interview on Today, Zegler (age 23) and Connor (age 20) expressed their delight about collaborating together. The lead of West Side Story, Zegler, spoke about finding great comfort in working with someone who provided her with a sense of security during the acting process, making her feel supported throughout it.

She expressed great admiration for Kit and the incredible accomplishments he’s made during his brief time here on Earth, as she gently touched his shoulder.

Working every day feels truly delightful, knowing that I can rely on someone I trust profoundly, especially since we’re performing live. As you all understand, doing things live can be incredibly nerve-wracking. It’s reassuring to know that I have a companion who provides a sense of support during this process.

Regardless of their portrayal as iconic romantic leads in history, neither Zegler nor Connor had an opportunity to meet each other before they took on these roles.

But Connor said they have been incredibly fortunate to be able to get along so well.

In essence, they started their jobs without ever meeting before, which can be quite nerve-wracking. Moreover, portraying one of the most renowned couples in history is bound to be challenging. However, he believes they’ve been incredibly fortunate, as their friendship has blossomed naturally and smoothly throughout the process.

As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but join the chorus expressing admiration for the undeniable bond between the actors, as I enthusiastically commented on their heartwarming behind-the-scenes photos and video clips shared during Today’s broadcast.

I adore their camaraderie!! They made an excellent team for that performance/production! Here’s to their friendship!” (Posted on Instagram alongside a fun video of them behind the scenes at Today)

‘they’re so cute, I love their friendship,’ another wrote.

‘Love them! They are perfect for Romeo and Juliet!’ one wrote.

I really enjoy it when Rachel Zegler wraps an arm around Kit Connor – it’s just adorable! I’m loving every moment of it, you two!

One posted as they reacted to photo of them behind-the-scenes: ‘Are they couple?!’

‘I ship,’ another posted in reaction to the photo.

Last month, Romeo and Juliet started preliminary shows at the Circle in the Square Theatre. This production signifies the first time on Broadway for both Rachel and Kit.

A month before previews began, Romeo + Juliet received a four-week extension due to high demand.
