Rachel Zegler breaks silence over “wild” response to Evita’s divisive balcony scene
Rachel Zegler, in a recent statement, has labeled the controversial balcony scene in Evita as “wild.
In this revitalized adaptation by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the storyline revolves around Eva Perón, played by Zegler, who served as Argentina’s First Lady from 1946 to 1952. The narrative delves into various facets of Eva’s life, including her meteoric rise to power and the ensuing debates and disputes she encountered along the way.
In the ongoing West End revival at the London Palladium, the lead actor from “The Hunger Games” prequel is seen performing ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ on the theatre’s balcony. The show is displayed to the audience through a screen after being filmed outside.

Positioned at the street-level of the theater, the strategic placement of the balcony offers a distinct creative choice: on-time viewers can catch Zegler singing the famous tune, as audiences continue to swell with each performance.
In a conversation with MagicFM recently, Zegler mentioned that they had discussed the balcony scene as they had set it up, and approximately 20 people captured moments of it on camera.
The day after that, there were approximately 400 individuals, and later on, it grew to about 800. Currently, I estimate our nightly attendance to be around 1,500. A big thank you to the Westminster Council for their essential role in making this happen. It’s truly astonishing!
On July 1st’s opening night, Digital Spy had the pleasure of attending the show, and it’s our honest opinion that Zegler is already deserving of a Laurence Olivier Award.
Back in 1978, “Evita” graced the stages of the West End for the very first time. Later on, in 1996, it was magnificently brought to life on the big screen, resulting in a box office smash. I had the pleasure of watching this timeless classic, featuring Madonna, Jonathan Pryce, and Antonio Banderas in the starring roles.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel thrilled about Zegler’s current spotlight with her outstanding performance that has everyone talking. On top of that exciting news, she’s also joining forces with Marisa Tomei in “She Gets It From Me,” a captivating comedy-drama. This tale revolves around a mother and daughter embarking on an unconventional journey that brings them closer together. Can’t wait to see what they bring to the table!
Evita runs at the London Palladium until 6 September. Tickets are available now.
As an enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement! The latest Digital Spy print issue is out, and it’s all about Oasis – Live in ’25! You can grab a copy from your local newsagents or purchase it online for only £8.99. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to dive deeper into the world of one of my favorite bands!
