Rachel Zegler addresses return for new Hunger Games movie

As a die-hard fan of the Hunger Games series who has eagerly followed every development since the first book was released, I must say that Rachel Zegler‘s confirmation about not returning for the next film in the franchise was a bittersweet moment. On one hand, I was disappointed to learn that we won’t be seeing Lucy Gray Baird again, but on the other, I understand and respect Zegler’s decision. After all, who among us wouldn’t jump at the chance to reprise a beloved character if given the opportunity?

Rachel Zegler has addressed the topic of her potential return for the new Hunger Games movie.

The actor played the role of Lucy Gray Baird, who was chosen as a tribute for one of the initial Hunger Games, while being mentored by a young Coriolanus Snow in the film “A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

A new prequel named “Sunrise at the Reaping” is coming soon, set 40 years before the events of “The Hunger Games,” with a focus on Haymitch Abernathy, a former Hunger Games victor who later serves as Katniss Everdeen’s mentor. This novel takes place 24 years prior to the original storyline.

Given the passage of time, it appears improbable for Lucy to reappear in “Sunrise,” yet given Hollywood’s fondness for cameos, it might not be too challenging to depict an aged version of Lucy using makeup and computer-generated imagery (CGI).

Yet, in a fresh conversation with Cosmopolitan, Zegler explicitly stated that she won’t reappear in the subsequent installment of the series.

She expressed that if given the opportunity, she’d leap at it to be reborn as Lucy Gray Baird, but unfortunately, she is not among those who will return. (She said this to the publication.)

2025 rolls around, and before I can grab my gaming controller, a new novel by Suzanne Collins titled “Sunrise on the Reaping” drops on March 18. Can’t wait to dive into this world of words before the movie adaptation hits theaters in 2026!

In the work titled “Sunrise on the Reaping“, the author drew inspiration from David Hume’s concept of tacit subordination. As Hume put it, “the simplicity with which the masses can be ruled by the few.” This was the author’s statement.

“Additionally, the tale offers an opportunity for further exploration on the manipulation of information through propaganda and the influence wielded by those shaping public opinion. The query ‘Is it genuine or a fabrication?’ becomes increasingly relevant in my mind each passing day.

The upcoming movie titled “Sunrise at the Harvest,” a prequel to the well-known series “The Hunger Games,” will debut in cinemas on November 20, 2026. The book with the same name is slated for release on March 18, 2025 and can be pre-ordered now.
