In a London park, a visibly upset Rachel Weisz was held down by a police officer during what appeared to be a tense arrest.
This isn’t a sign of the acclaimed actress falling from grace. These photos were actually taken while she was filming her new movie, a suspenseful thriller called Séance on a Wet Afternoon.
Fifty-six-year-old actress Weisz appears alongside Matthew Macfadyen (known for Succession) in a new version of a 1964 film originally starring Kim Stanley and Richard Attenborough.
The story revolves around Myra (Weisz), a psychic with personal struggles, who persuades her husband, Billy (Macfadyen), to help her kidnap the child of a rich family. Myra believes this will allow her to demonstrate her abilities by locating the missing boy.
As their plan goes awry, Billy starts to understand that his wife’s intense obsession could ruin both of their lives.
Last week, a film crew was shooting on Hampstead Heath in north London. During a scene, actress Rachel Weisz, wearing a 1960s-style coat and gloves, was deliberately pushed to the ground as part of the action.
Macfadyen, 51, was spotted looking downcast as he filmed scenes with a policeman.
The film features Joe Alwyn, who is well-known for his long-term relationship with Taylor Swift, and also includes appearances in the films The Brutalist and Hamnet.
Okay, so I was on set recently and spotted Alwyn, who’s 35, really taking off – literally sprinting! – across the set. It was adorable, actually. He ran right over to give his co-star, the lovely Julia Franz Richter, a big hug between scenes. It felt like a really sweet, genuine moment.
This movie is adapted from a 1961 novel by Mark McShane. The first adaptation of the story earned Kim Stanley an Academy Award nomination.
The upcoming version promises to be just as highly regarded, with a script from Jack Thorne, known for his work on Adolescence, and direction by Tomas Alfredson, the director of the critically praised 2011 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Rachel Weisz, who is married to actor Daniel Craig, won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2005 film, The Constant Gardener.
I’m absolutely captivated by her performance in Netflix’s ‘Vladimir’! She plays a married professor so beautifully, and the chemistry between her and Leo Woodall (who you might recognize from ‘One Day’) is just incredible. Everyone’s talking about how amazing she is, and honestly, I completely agree!
Séance on a Wet Afternoon is set to be released next year.
