Rachel Stevens Reveals How S Club 7 Coped with Paul Cattermole’s Tragic Death on Tour

Rachel Stevens revealed that S Club 7 mourned as a group following the sad demise of their fellow band member, Paul Cattermole.

In April 2023, at the age of 46, Paul was discovered deceased at his residence in Dorset. His passing was attributed to cardiac complications, with no indications suggesting any unusual or suspicious circumstances surrounding his unexpected demise.

Tragically, he died only two months following the announcement that S Club 7 was reunioning and planning a tour together.

Rather than embarking on their The Good Times Tour, they did so in memory of Paul. Unfortunately, Hannah Spearritt, aged 43, had left the band after Paul’s demise and was not part of this tour.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my feelings about the healing power of touring that Rachel experienced. Sharing with The Mirror, she said, “It was nothing short of incredible to embark on this tour and commemorate him in such a meaningful way.

‘We had the opportunity to mourn collectively and remember him fondly, sharing cherished memories that brought us comfort. This shared process of healing was truly unique.’

Beyond the tragedy of Paul’s death, Rachel has experienced turbulent times in her personal life as well. After parting ways with her former husband, Alex Bourne, she is now raising their two daughters, Amelie, aged 14, and Minnie, who is 11 years old.

In 2022, they got divorced. Looking back at this major life event, she shared that her life has now taken an entirely different course.

‘She emphasized that it’s important to allow yourself time to process your emotions, show compassion towards yourself in the process, and communicate with others about your feelings.’

In July 2022, Rachel disclosed that she was ending her relationship with her long-time boyfriend, Alex, which was about to celebrate its 13th year in August.

The S Club icon went on to find love again with Dancing On Ice skater Brendyn Hatfield.

In November 2023, their romantic connection became public knowledge, as it was around that time they started dating, having initially met on the ITV program.

Earlier, it was disclosed that S Club underwent group therapy as a means to manage their emotions following the heart-rending demise of Paul.

On the Happy Place podcast, Rachel shared that the band underwent therapy sessions as a means to foster open dialogue and reminisce about their memories of Paul.

In discussing the sessions, she shared with host Fearne Cotton: “They were fantastic. I firmly believe that conversation is simply the best remedy, and it’s always beneficial.

It encourages dialogue and aids you; the essence is straightforward. It served as an extraordinary means to honor him and his existence, yet it was heartbreakingly sad.

Rachel stated unequivocally that the tour would not proceed further, yet she emphasized that the shared experience had drawn her and her bandmates Tina Barrett, Jon Lee Bradley McIntosh, and Jo O’Meara even closer.

She clarified: ‘It drew us even nearer. Although it was heart-wrenching, we somehow ended up being together.’

It’s clear that the tour was underway without any indication it would end, yet unexpectedly, we paused and reassessed the situation. Through conversation and mutual support, we stood together during this time. In such moments, all one can truly offer is empathy and companionship.

Afterward, the reunion tour served as a celebration of Paul, leading them to rename it “The Good Times Tour,” an homage to his song from their third album with the same name.

Rachel expressed that they aimed to always consider his family with respect, showing them thoughtfulness. They found themselves frequently conversing and reminiscing about him.

The journey transformed into something profoundly meaningful, serving as a heartfelt tribute and joyous commemoration of him.

It was shared in a joint statement by his family and S Club that Paul Cattermole, who was dearly loved as their son and brother, tragically passed away suddenly.

On the 6th of April, 2023, Paul was discovered at his residence in Dorset. He was sadly confirmed deceased later that very same day.

Although the reason for Paul’s passing remains undiscovered, Dorset Police has made it clear that there was nothing suspicious about the situation. At this difficult moment, Paul’s family, companions, and S Club associates are asking for privacy to grieve.
