Rachel Scott and James Longman will co-anchor a daily ABC News streaming program for Disney +

The news is coming to Disney +.

From July 21st onwards, our streaming platform will debut its inaugural original program by ABC News, featuring senior political correspondent Rachel Scott and international correspondent James Longman sharing the anchor desk.

Starting from 6 a.m. Eastern Time every day, the compact show named “What You Need To Know” will be recorded and then accessible for viewers of Disney+ on-demand. This was announced by ABC News on Monday.

Initially, the title referred to the afternoon segment of “Good Morning America” on ABC’s network, which is now called “GMA 3.

The latest offering from ABC News provides a fresh avenue to engage with a younger demographic that has shifted away from conventional television towards streaming services. This news division operates its own 24-hour, ad-free streaming channel known as ABC News Live.

ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic stated that this fresh initiative enhances ABC News’ substantial presence on Disney+, enabling us to engage and relate to a wider and more varied spectrum of viewers.

The alterations in anchor positions are causing disruptions in one of the final routines associated with traditional television viewing. In fact, two out of the three network evening news broadcasts are currently undergoing significant transformations.

The program will offer a fast-moving collection, featuring brief sections covering everything from today’s top news and trending stories to popular entertainment and viral video clips.

Scott, a promising journalist from Los Angeles and an ABC News up-and-comer, will make his debut as the lead network anchor. At the age of 32, Scott gained recognition during the 2024 presidential campaign when he asked challenging questions to then-President Trump at the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago.

The appearance led to death threats against Scott, who needed security in the days that followed.

Additionally, Scott received recognition from the White House Correspondents Association for her reporting on the attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

38-year-old Longman has served as a foreign correspondent for ABC News since 2017. Starting now, he’ll share anchoring duties on “What You Need to Know” from his base in London.

Longman, a person identifying as gay, shares insights about the hardships experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals in repressive societies globally.

More recently, he penned a personal account, titled “The Inherited Mind,” delving into the generational history of mental health issues within his family.
