Sunday’s episode of Married At First Sight featured some sad news: popular couple Rachel Gilmore and Steven Danyluk announced their breakup.
During the final dinner party of Daily Mail’s Married At First Sight in Sydney, Rachel, 35, was visibly upset watching footage of her and Steven, 34, breaking up, with Steven seated nearby.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! The whole cast got together – at the Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo, of all places! – to watch the latest episode. And honestly? It was so emotional! Poor Rachel was actually crying, it was heartbreaking to watch, even knowing what was coming. I’m still reeling from it all!
Everyone was captivated as a past scene from the Commitment Ceremony appeared on screen. It featured Rachel sharing her worries about the relationship with the experts.
You know, I’ve been talking to a friend who’s really worried about a long-distance relationship. She’s afraid her partner might just drift back into his old life when he returns home, and it’ll be simpler for him to end things than to keep working at it. It’s a really common fear when you’re dealing with distance – that the other person will fall back into their routine and you’ll be left behind. It’s tough, but acknowledging that fear is the first step to addressing it.
He’s really busy with his business and doesn’t have much free time, so I worry that maintaining a relationship with me might be too much for him. I’m afraid he might end things because of it, and that’s what I’m most scared of.
Rachel started crying as she watched what was happening, sitting next to Stella Mickunaite and Sam Stanton.
Rachel was overwhelmed and started to cry, resting her head on Sam’s shoulder for comfort.
Steven, seated nearby Rachel, deliberately avoided looking at her and kept his attention fixed on the screen.
Even though Rachel and Steven had already broken up, Sunday night’s episode showed a glimmer of hope for them getting back together.
Before dinner, the couple had a private conversation about ending their relationship. Surprisingly, it ended with Steven putting his wedding ring back on.
Rachel was clearly upset, saying she couldn’t believe they were alone and that their breakup still felt real.
Steven confessed that after making their Final Vows, he didn’t prioritize Rachel, choosing to concentrate on his work instead.
Rachel asked Steven if he was willing to work on fixing their marriage, sharing that she still loved and cared for him and didn’t want their relationship to end.
Steven replied: ‘I don’t want to be like this either, that’s why I’m so hurt and upset.’
Rachel then reiterated how much she still cared for Steven, and after a long pause, he responded.
He admitted he wasn’t wearing his ring, but explained he had it safely tucked away in his jacket pocket, just in case he needed it.
He told producers he’d put his wedding ring back on, explaining that he and Rachel genuinely care about each other and want to make their relationship work.
Unfortunately, the reunion didn’t last, and Rachel recently told the Daily Mail the sad reason why they broke up.
Rachel says revisiting the moments from her Final Vows was emotional and brought up a lot of feelings, even though it was a happy occasion.
‘I said yes at the end… it was a really beautiful moment to relive,’ she said.
It made me realize how deeply I loved Steven and how important he was to me, and how much I’d sacrificed to be with him.
Even though audiences were enjoying Rachel’s romance on TV, she was privately struggling with a difficult situation.
She admitted it was difficult to revisit the experience, especially knowing how everything turned out.
According to Rachel, the cracks began almost immediately after filming wrapped.
Steven had promised them a future together, but after that, he went back to his life in Sydney and didn’t follow through on his commitments to her.
She explained that they had talked a lot about him visiting Melbourne, and she saw it as a chance for him to be there for her when she needed him.
‘But there was always an excuse and a reason not to come.’
‘He listed the reasons why he couldn’t come… and they were all to do with me,’ she revealed.
‘That really took me by surprise. I should have been the reason you’d want to run to Melbourne.’
