Rachael Finch puts her daughter, 11, through a three-month ‘detox protocol’ that includes eating CLAY – after discovering she has ‘mould sickness’

Rachael Finch is facing criticism for reportedly putting her 11-year-old daughter, Violet, on a strict ‘detox’ plan to address an illness potentially caused by mould exposure.

I was so excited to share some personal news with my followers on Instagram yesterday! I was filming a sweet makeup session with my daughter, Violet, and it felt like the perfect moment to let everyone in on what’s been happening. It’s all about those little moments, right?

In the video, the mother of two shared that her daughter, Violet, started coughing a lot soon after the family moved to a house in Coogee, a beachside neighborhood in Sydney.

Violet explained that she started coughing constantly shortly after they moved to Coogee. ‘It just began a couple of weeks after we settled in,’ she said.

Rachael explained they were completely baffled by her symptom. She was constantly coughing – while playing tennis, after waking up, throughout the day, and even in the shower.

It finally hit me – Violet being sick, it all made sense! I mean, I’d been researching everything, and then it clicked: it had to be the mould in her house! It was everywhere, and I just knew, deep down, that was what was making her so unwell. I was so relieved to finally have a possible explanation!

Mould can make you cough because it releases microscopic particles into the air. When you breathe these in, they can irritate your lungs and airways.

Rachael explained that they discovered something growing inside the garage. It seems the previous owners simply painted over the walls, and now they’re noticing and smelling mold coming through.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been hearing some truly concerning stories lately about hidden mold in homes. One friend, Violet, discovered her bedroom fan was actually *changing color* – turning black and green from mold growth! And another, Rachael, was horrified to find mold actually growing on her dresses in the closet. It was, as she put it, utterly disgusting. It’s a really important reminder to check those often-overlooked areas for moisture and potential mold – it can happen faster than you think!

Rachael took Violet to a clinical nutritionist, who gave her a mycotoxin test.

These tests, which aim to detect toxins from mold in the body, are considered unreliable by medical professionals in Australia.

Mycotoxins are a concern because they can be found in common foods, not just in mold, and there aren’t clear guidelines about what levels are safe or dangerous.

Because test results from different labs can be very inconsistent, doctors usually focus on a patient’s symptoms and check the environment for mold when trying to diagnose mold-related illnesses.

Violet’s test showed she has gliotoxin in her system, a toxin created by some molds that can weaken the immune system.

Rachael then put Violet on a 12-week treatment plan to address mycotoxin exposure.

For the first three weeks, the young teenager took several supplements containing antioxidants, with the goal of helping her body’s natural cleansing processes.

Between weeks four and six, Violet began consuming a small amount of bentonite clay daily, believing it would help detoxify her body.

Bentonite clay comes from volcanic ash and is special because it’s packed with minerals and has a natural negative charge.

As a lifestyle expert, I often get asked about detox trends, and bentonite clay for things like mycotoxin removal is one that comes up a lot. Honestly, most doctors I’ve spoken with aren’t keen on recommending it, and the research showing it actually *works* in people is pretty limited. So, while it’s popular, it’s not something I generally advise my clients to rely on.

During the last three weeks, Violet began using oregano oil, a natural remedy often used for its ability to fight fungal infections.

Oregano oil is not a medically approved treatment for mould exposure or mycotoxin removal.

After 12 weeks, Violet’s follow-up tests revealed lower toxin levels and a noticeable improvement in her symptoms, according to Rachael.

Rachael explained it was really difficult because Violet disliked taking her supplements, and getting her to do so was a struggle every single day and night.

Daily Mail approached the Therapeutic Goods Administration in relation to this story.

If you’re feeling unwell and think it might be due to mould exposure, please see your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
