Starting from April 23rd on BBC One, just a single team will reach the final destination and pocket the £20,000 cash reward in this new series.

Race Across The World first aired in 2019, with contestants racing from London to Singapore.
The second season took them through Central and South America, from Mexico to Argentina.
In the third act of my adventure, I traversed the vast and beautiful landscapes of Canada, starting in Vancouver and concluding in St. John’s. For the fourth chapter, I embarked on an incredible journey that took me from the bustling cities of Japan to the tropical paradises of Indonesia.
After Alfie Watts, the season four winner, returned to Japan, he went back to settle a debt of gratitude – a meal that a waiter had kindly provided for him without charge while he was concerned about his finances during filming on the acclaimed BBC series.
Determined to keep costs low, the fellow hailing from St Albans decided to be thrifty when he and his companion Owen Wood found themselves with a limited budget of £1,100 apiece for their journey from the far north of Japan to the picturesque Indonesian island of Lombok.
In the second installment, longtime pals Alfie and Owen, who go back to their seventh year at school, arrived at the internationally acclaimed, beef-renowned city of Kobe.
Initially disheartened by the high cost of the beef as they settled in at a neighborhood eatery, the Hertfordshire friends found themselves thrilled beyond measure once granted the opportunity to sample it complimentary.

About a year after filming, Alfie returned to Japan to settle his tab for the meal. Viewers found this act particularly heartwarming and referred to it as a “sweet gesture.
After securing their recent victories, Alfie has been fondly recalling the individuals who contributed to their success on the BBC travel show alongside Owen.
In case you recall, there was a specific moment in Race Across the World when I and Owen received some complimentary Kobe beef, as Alfie shared with his approximately 50,000 TikTok fans.
‘I am back in Kobe and I am on a mission to pay for the Kobe beef.’
Using the capabilities of BBC iPlayer, Alfie managed to locate the restaurant where he dined a year ago and displayed a Kobe beef video clip to the staff.
But the good-natured waiter who had offered him the dish free of charge was not there.
Alfie mentioned that when he was at the restaurant, the team informed him that the initial waiter wasn’t present there. As a result, he accompanied them to their associated eatery to express gratitude and settle the bill personally with the waiter.
Initially, the waiter hesitated to accept the money, but Alfie persisted and bowed as a gesture of his appreciation instead.

He shared that he had long desired to accomplish this task, and finding himself able to do it was incredibly thrilling.
‘Just remember always pay things forward,’ Alfie added. ‘I do believe in paying your way.’
At a neighborhood eatery, the novice flyer Owen discovered that a serving of Kobe beef was a hefty 120,000 yen, which equates to approximately one British pound for every five grams.
In the broadcast that aired in April, Alfie remarked, ‘We have approximately half a minute left to determine whether we’ll be running or making a purchase.’
Football referee Alfie, clearly anxious about their funds, tried to bargain for a reduced price with the server before requesting only a single serving of the desired meal.
In a less than satisfied manner, Alfie commented on the financial predicament, “The budget doesn’t impress me.” To this, Owen responded, “We don’t want to leave here with feelings of regret.
After sampling the meal, they praised the meat as exceptionally tender, even going so far as to say it was the finest they’d ever tasted. However, Alfie remained unconvinced that its high cost justified the expense.
Showing great kindness, the waiter noticed that the customers were financially constrained and generously offered them the expensive Kobe beef at no cost.
An overjoyed Alfie jumped up from his seat and pulled the man in for a hug.
In the subsequent part of the program, Alfie expressed his remorse by saying, “I’m sorry if I appeared unhappy or upset during that time. That was a moment I wish I could take back.
‘Look if this costs us later down the line, it is not value for money.’
However, the stop for beef didn’t slow down their progress; instead, these longtime companions ultimately triumphed in the competition.
Over a span of about 7 weeks and traversing through seven different nations, covering approximately 9,000 miles, Alfie and Owen ultimately reached the finish line in Lombok, having only a small fraction (around 1%) of their initial budget left.
The 21-year-old friends took home the £20,000 prize between them.
Race Across the World begins Wednesday April 23 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
