The 2019 thriller Brightburn, produced by James Gunn, is leaving Netflix soon. While the film, directed by David Yarovesky, received a mixed reception when it first came out, it’s gained more viewers thanks to being available on streaming.
Brightburn is leaving Netflix next month
Soon, the horror movie Brightburn, rated R, will no longer be available on Netflix. What’s on Netflix reports that it will be removed from the streaming service on March 1, 2026. Originally released in theaters in May 2019, the film was produced by James Gunn and Kenneth Huang, and the script was written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn.
The movie follows Tori and Kyle Breyer, a couple who finally have a child after years of trying – they adopt a baby boy discovered in a strange spaceship. They lovingly raise him as their own, believing he’s a gift. But as Brandon grows up, unsettling changes emerge. He develops incredible powers and begins to use them recklessly, endangering everyone around him and forcing his parents to confront the terrifying truth about his origins.
Elizabeth Banks and David Denman lead the cast of the film, playing Tori and Kyle Breyer, respectively. The film also features Jackson A. Dunn, Meredith Hagner, Matt Jones, Gregory Alan Williams, and other talented actors.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave the movie Brightburn a 57% rating, based on 206 reviews. Audiences scored it higher, with a 67% rating. However, The Independent noted that while the movie’s idea is interesting, it doesn’t fully explore its potential.
The movie earned about $33 million worldwide while it was playing in theaters, according to Box Office Mojo.
